There was a bit of clear sky to my east a short while ago, but that has gone now and this winter has started off on a rather boring, overcast and uninspiring note with more in the way of constant grey skies, and with nothing which is even remotely interesting actually happening. If the rest of today is like that, this will therefore be one of the most boring starts to any winter which I can remember and given that I live in one of the most boring parts of the UK on average when it comes to our weather, that wouldn't surprise me one single bit.
Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 3.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so last night was slightly colder than the previous night but not cold enough to prevent the frost-free hell from last month continuing into this winter as a result of there being too much cloud around yet again. This spell of weather isn't turning to be as mild here as it was originally going to be according to the official forecasts but given the latest model output, we might still have a fairly long wait for our first official air frost of this winter which would be rather disappointing when you consider that the same month last year had even contained an official ice day.
Meanwhile, the temperature at 9am this morning was 4.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
