The rain from earlier on has now cleared away and the skies are now much clearer. Although it isn't quite as windy as it was earlier on though, it is still very windy nevertheless and at midnight, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank was still gusting up to 32.3mph from the SW.

In the end, a total of 4.8 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 3.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The temperature has dropped by quite a bit over the last few hours, but it is still mild and the temperature at midnight was 8.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That southerly gale is back and got a kick to it but that's where it streams straight in from the Strait of Dover and funnels up my road so it seems twice as worse as I can feel my house humming in the wind. But "only" 4.6 mm of rain so far since midnight, but seems to be a lot more than that so I think the rain is just simply blowing over the collector.
I've just had to retrieve my freshly emptied out landfill bin from the other end of the road, Urgh. And it's not even December.

After a much clearer period during the early hours of this morning, it is now raining here in Edinburgh once again to give us a rather dull, wet and miserable start to today although it's not as windy here for now, as it was yesterday.

So far, a total of 0.4 mm of rain has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning along with 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 8.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The suicide inducing Groundhog hell just goes on and on. For the 11th day in a row I have woken up to vile gloomy mild wet filth from the SE quadrant. Temp 8.1C following another stupid min of 7.6C.

Even the worst climates on earth aren't this bad. It's beyond what anyone could reasonably be expected to tolerate.

Here in Edinburgh, it is still absolutely chucking it down with rain as it has been doing throughout this morning with nothing in the way of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

However, this has now increased today's rainfall total so far as at 12 noon to 9.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 7.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations and in addition to that, this also makes today the wettest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This also means that just another 8.5 mm of rain needs to fall between now and the end of tomorrow at Edinburgh Gogarbank in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, this also means that just another 5.4 mm of rain needs to fall between now and the end of tomorrow at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

This is probably still unlikely to happen, but we can't now rule out that possibility as a result of what is happening just now whereas such a prospect would have been unthinkable here just a short while ago.

The overnight minimum temperature from last night eventually bottomed out to 7.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 7.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it is a lot cooler today than what it was yesterday.

BBC seem to think it is mild and are predicting up to 15C this afternoon - but it is much cooler than this morning and only 8C.

The rain from earlier on has now cleared away and the skies are now much clearer than of late. However, a total of just 6 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This makes today the 8th day in a row where there has been less than an hour of sunshine altogether at Edinburgh Gogarbank, and the 11th day in a row where the overall sunshine total for that particular day at that same station has been less than 2.0 hours.

The end result of this is that regardless of what happens tomorrow, this month will now go down as being duller than average overall since there isn't enough available daylight at this time of year for us to be able to get the amount of sunshine which would be needed during tomorrow in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average overall.

I know that sunshine amounts are probably not as important at this of the year as they are during the summer where one of the components of a decent summer is that it should be sunnier than average (as indeed, this summer was). However, the fact that this month has ended up being duller than average in the end is still rather disappointing when you consider that this is a month which for so long, had looked as though it was going to be substantially sunnier than average until those easterlies came in and ruined all of that.

Anyway, this afternoon's rainfall has now increased today's rainfall amounts so far as at 5pm this afternoon to 12.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 11.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That makes today, the wettest day of this month so far and with tomorrow's forecast not looking as bad, that is probably the way in which it will all end up.

The wind has picked up once again as well with maximum gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank of up to 37.9mph from the west as at 5pm this afternoon.

Rather unusually, today's maximum temperature was reached during the early hours of this morning and this was 9.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 8.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

We no longer have the persistent rain from earlier on, but there are still a few showers around and whilst this hasn't added anything else as of yet to today's rainfall total so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, it has resulted in a further 0.2 mm of rain being recorded at the the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where there now only needs to be another 0.6 mm of rain between now and the end of tomorrow in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

Given the latest forecast of further showers during both tonight and tomorrow, there is now a very good chance that this will now happen which makes it hard to believe that this is something which would have been unthinkable even as recently as yesterday, even though this month will already be going down as a wetter than average month there in terms of the number of official rain days but that just goes to show what the effects of one incredibly wet day can have on an entire month's rainfall pattern.

It is also still very windy as well with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank now gusting up to 33.6mph from the SW as at 8pm this evening.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 7.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so although the temperatures have showed a slight drop during the last hour, they are actually generally refusing to drop over time due to there being too much cloud and far too much wind.
