5.6c with wind and heavy rain.  Awful for driving in, with a lot of standing water along roads.

Cloudy, wet and windy - the kind of evening where 0.8 mm seems a lot wetter than it needs to be. 8.6 C with the return of the strong southerly wind.

Hi, Ian! Wet 'n' windy here, the weather the same! Strong to gale force SE winds, driving moderate rain and chilly at 4.9 C .. makes that quiet and sunny day yesterday feel a distant memory! Pressure @ 1007mb falling.

A grim evening here with moderate rain (even though it's only amounted to 1.4 mm so far) and a strong onshore wind, at least it's keeping the local bored brats indoors. The outlook looks a bit pants but the local reservoirs could do with topping up (Bewl lake is at 66% full but apparently that is close to the average anyway).

The rain from earlier on didn't hang around here for long and has already cleared away much more quickly than forecast. The amounts of rain from that have also been very variable in this area at the local level, and that has amounted to 1.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where today will therefore go down as yet another official rain day as a result), but nothing at all in that department at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This once again, is showing us why every single month keeps on consistently being drier than average these days in terms of the actual rainfall amounts with that likely to remain the case for this month as well. The lack of completely dry days during this month has been largely due to those showers which were coming in from off the North Sea during the recent easterly spell of weather, and this has also helped to ensure that this month isn't as dry in terms of the actual rainfall amounts as what October was. However, those big weather systems which are coming in from the Atlantic are just not producing the significant amounts of rain in this area which we would normally expect to get from them.

That has happened yet again tonight and as long as that keeps on happening, we will never have any chance of seeing a wetter than average month in terms of the actual rainfall amounts. Having said that though, what rain we have had tonight is still enough to mean that this month will now go down as being wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the number of official rain days since there has now been more official rain days there during this month so far than the 1981-2010 November average for that station.

After that rain moved through though, the temperature then started to go up again as forecast, and has been slowly going up since then. This means that the annual warm-up which always happens in time for the start of every winter is now underway. This means that the temperature at the point in time when that rain moved through is likely to end up being tonight's overnight minimum temperature which is 4.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It is also still windy and although it's not quite as windy as earlier on, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank was still gusting up to 29.8mph from the SE at 8pm this evening when the temperature was 5.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
