Another utterly awful day with drizzle and a stupidly boring lack of temperature range with a max of only 6.2C achieved following a min of 4.7C. Stuck on 5C all evening

This is unreal. It's just the same crap day in day out. There is just nothing remotely interesting at all. The lack of mild daytime temperatures and any sort of cold is just astonishing. Near average daily high of 6.0C this month and extreme max just 9.7C but no snow and a pitiful three frosts with mean min running 1.5C above average at 2.8C.  The second month in a row to see an average diurnal range of just 3C. 44% wind from the SE quadrant which is horrendous but pales into comparison with 73% in November.

Unspeakably bad and I challenge anyone to find a forecast for a populated part of the world, outside of the British Isles, that depicts conditions more dire and boring than what we have had to put up with for the past month

Spare a thought for us in the Massif Central in Central France. Endless grey, wet and relatively mild gloom. This is the epitome of the modern climate change winter. This area at an average of 700 metres above sea level is seeing no snow at all. Hardly any frosts; hardly any high pressure or sunshine. It is relentless rain and gloom and following on from one of the hottest summers on record. Winter is no longer a season here. It is just very, very depressing.

Unfortunatly I have not posted much in this thread as imby we are still waiting for winter to arrive and looks like it won`t be arriving anytime in the foreseeable   Today has been 13c+ and it feels more like April than December.Ive a feeling we could end up completely bypassing winter this year. January will be key.

Yet another horrendous nothing day dawns with cloudy frost free crap. Closing in on a fortnight without any frost now. Used to be an exceptional occurrence but happens pretty much every "winter" now.

Like the 1950s and 1980s this has been a decade of dire Decembers but unlike in those decades the garbage has continued throughout the winter with almost no let up. Whilst 2013, 2015 and 2016 were all atrocious Decembers none of them were anywhere near as mind-numbingly boring as this month of utter dross has been.

I can't remember having as little enthusiasm for Christmas as I have this year and this endlessly crap is the cause. It sucks the life out of you. Just wish I could hibernate until March because I am getting nothing out of this winter at all and don't believe there will be any change for the better.

We need some new emoticons for this winter. This one would be ideal:

Just as bad if not worse that December 2015 - So far out of 22 nights we have had no frost and it has rained on every day! Very damp and gloomy. It reached 14c earlier in brighter spell. Very unseasonal. I never knew this December will be this crap for cold weather enthusiasts! At least in October we recorded a sub-zero night time max -3c on 26th/27th October. This December not got below 1c.

The frost free horror goes on and on despite clear skies this morning. It's just unreal. 13 days without any frost now despite only two days in that period reaching as high as 7C

May 2018 was the warmest on record yet it still got down to -1.5C. Now the nights are at their longest and with maxes of 5C  it can't even drop below 1C under clear skies  Just a complete joke which defies any sort of logical or rational explanation.

December 2015 was definitely no where near as bad as this. It was utterly dire but there was much more variety both in temperature and weather conditions- it was nowhere near as pitifully boring as this. We'd had two falls of snow by now: 5cm on 21st/22nd Nov and 1cm on 30th Nov/1st Dec whereas there hasn't been a flake so far this year and only two years in the past 70 have had nothing by the end of December - 1953 and 2006.

To be struggling to get much higher than average during the day but failing to get frost is just disgusting and appalling winter weather. I can't imagine anywhere even at 47 degrees North struggling to get frost in the core winter period never mind 57 degrees North.

A rare frost here this morning.
Whilst not overly mild this month has been boring weatherwise with the freezing rain event the only real interest and even that isnt as exciting as snow.
Very little snow this autumn /winter even on the higher ground. Normally even in a mild December there would be a handful of days when you could go to 300-500m asl to see some snow. Basically no cool NW or W incursions.

Second frost of the winter this morning after enduring a wet three days in the Lakes to recharge the batteries.😏

A crap winter thus far to go with the zillion other proceeding crap winters, and I’m far from convinced the SSW will do us any favours either looking at at the GFS.

Sounds like the weather is just as crap up there as it is down here! Frost free month continues here and it's now rained on 24 out of the 24 days although today is drizzle 9c- utterly crap and repulsive! No wonder high street sales are poor - who what's to go out on this crappy weather! Not one frigging night of frost or crisp cold morning to wake up to for a change! Relentless overcast skies with clound rain or light rain and drizzle! SICK!

We had one morning of 2c and one evening when it dipped to +1c  on 8th or 9th , but only for it to rise to 9c in morning with heavy rain!! Worse December since 2015!!

The only comfort I get is knowing that we have a SSW and it really cannot get worse that this. Seriously!!

Despite a pressure reading of 1027.6mb currently, it is slate grey and pissing out of the heavens.

You may get a frost tonight - Aberdeen shows -5c @ 0600 am tomorrow morning according to Tomasz Schaf's! Least it will feel more seasonal for you but for us in Devon it's 8c tonight and 12c tomorrow so double finger Xmas Day temperatures for the 4th year in a row!

There may not have been an air frost but it has been a beautiful chilly winter’s day with the ground, cars etc in the shade all still frozen solid.

So why was/is Richard Moaning! Least you have seen something seasonal! :)

I think things are really desperate down here now. What's strange was that we had x2 blizzards in March daytime maxes of -3c on 1st March and here we are at the end of December and struggle to even get temperature to reach freezing!

Enjoy the crisp and cold weather up there tonight and tomorrow - it doesn't look like it will last.

Hope we start seeing some cold, snowy weather in January. Also once this SSW has been picked up by the GFS models - we should start seeing some more colder/ blocked or bitterly cold FI charts! Don't know how patient we can be to see something wintry - Soon we would have lost a months worth of winter with no frost let alone snow or sleet etc. Then 8 weeks to go before spring! I really don't want blizzards heavy drifting snow in March again! It's not fun first one was great fun 2nd one was just too much snow...but again we need this snow to occur during winter months and we have already lost one month of winter! So disappointing really! Very frustrating too.

Why is it that we just cannot get through a Christmas Day these days without double figures temperatures being recorded either here in the Scottish Borders, or back home in Edinburgh regards of what circumstances have led to that happening?

Today started off with an official air frost and at Edinburgh Airport, it was even down to -5°C. The rest of today hasn't been all that mild either.  Yet even as I write, the temperature just keeps on going up and now at Edinburgh Airport, the temperature has shot all the way up to 10°C which is ridiculously mild for this time of year.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

A crappy day weather wise - drizzle and light rain and fog etc! - Temperature of +11c, despite air pressure of 1030mb.

This has been the 4th year in the row where by the temperature has reached double digits on Xmas Day.

2014 +10
2015 +13
2016 +15
2017 +14.5
2018 +11

Where do we go from here?

This will go down as the worse December in terms of cold and /or snow. Can't believe that min temp has not reached 1c yet. Merely a frost either and rain now 25/25 days! Sick!! YUCK!

At least there was frost and ice on 26/27th October at -3.5c! I guess we will have to wait Spring to see snow or anything cold the way we are going!

We haven't even had a colder snap let alone a colder spell? what the heck? this is some real messed up sh!t going on here with our weather!
