After last night's crap-shack, it's 0/4 so far! Next stop on the tour of frustration - Thursday.

Tuesday 22nd - rain (with snow reported SE, NW, north and west)
Thursday 24th - rain with a few flakes of sleet (snow reported north and NW)
Sunday 27th - rain (potential back-edge snow, but it didn't happen)
Tuesday 29th - rain and sleet (with a dusting of snow a few miles inland, grrr!)

Why do systems always correct south on the models? It is a given.
Even up until yesterday various models had us getting some snow Thr night as did the Met Office automated. Now dry on all models.

The only time systsms get this far is when they push all the way through to bring mild weather.
Another chance wasted.

But I knew this was going to happen. I can barely be bothered being disappointed to be honest. It happens time and time again with these types of systems. They always correct south, never north. Now if a bunch of weather enthusiasts can spot this why can't the professional meteorologists who programme these models recognise it and correct for it?

I can identify with your feelings, I can’t even get really excited because I know the automated updates will change if they show snow for me!  I even know the three or four yellow warnings we’ve had for snow and ice, mean it will be ice for us!  So I’m not surprised to see the charts keeping us under the snow shield for the foreseeable future and it’s where we’ve been all winter!  No snow!

I disagree with you on one thing though.  Snow does occasionally correct North but only if I was previously within the Southern boundary!  For me in the middle, it’s been snow to the N, S, E and W, but none here!  If there’s any chance at all of getting snow in North Notts, you can bet it’ll be after 17th February when I’ll be off for some winter sun!

This cold spell is just lame, pathetic and embarrassing beyond words. Supposed to be the coldest night of winter and four hours after sunset it's not even below freezing  Yet again that crap wind set in during the late afternoon, at just the very time it would have dropped out in the past.

No snow falling all week but the pitiful dusting we had late on Sunday has hung around like a bad smell. Looks awful and worse of all has turned to an icy mess and made the pavements treacherous. Funny how during this unprecedented snow drought we seem to have to endure more icy pavements than I can ever remember in the past

January has just gone the same way as December - a complete write-off - and undoubtedly February will too. We have now had only three Januaries in 15 years where more than 2cm of snow has accumulated. A statistic so incredulous that anyone with even a basic knowledge of UK climate would think I had made a typo. Unfortunately not - since 2005 only 2010, 2013 and 2016 have recorded a snow depth of more than 2cm. So diabolical it's surreal.

It's not even been mild either because I haven't recorded a January as much as 1C above average since 2007 which is the longest run without a very mild January since 1899-1915. Only 2014 has been more than 0.5C above average since then and that was down to hideous mild nights.

The cuplrit responsible for giving this complete and utter dross has been the inexplicable arrival of previously unheard of 'cold westerlies'. Couldn't name a single month dominated by these in the past but over the last decade we've suffered them in January 2009, January 2011, December 2011, January 2012, February 2013, most of winter 14/15, second half of January 2016, January 2018 and now this month. All of them brought the same tedious banality. Average temperatures, sunny and dry with little or no snow or hard frost. Most of the very mild winter months of the 90s and 2000s were snowier than the dross listed above as even a 36 hour northerly would have been capable of delivering more snow than the whole of that rot combined e.g. 12cm on 6th December 1998

I was I Perth today and was amazed how little snow there was between Glasgow, Sterling and Perth, around Perth itself even the hills were clear of snow, meanwhile Liverpool Airport next to the Irish Sea is closed by snow! You couldn't make it up.

Meanwhile its back home where I can admire what remains of the 0.5cms that fell last night.

Oh well I can always watch the southern England and Midlands snowstorm tomorrow to cheer me up, its like watching porn but like porn watching someone else is nowhere near as much fun!!

I am almost looking forward to a Bartlett February when at least I won't be tortured by great models that fail to verify and the sight of other peoples bloody snow.

0.5cm? Luxury, that's 0.5cm more than I've had down here.

As for the snowstorm today, I'd suggest finding a webcam in, say, Canterbury. That way you can watch the snow fall this evening, followed by the torrential rain which GFS has picked up from nowhere washing it all away again by dawn.

(UKV, GFS and Euro4 have all cooked up an area of snow-melting 2C dewpoints moving across Kent early tomorrow, with rain. Wonderful stuff!)

EDIT: GFS' take on it.

In my location... I will not get snow from the forecast charts in the next 48 hours and even though we still have February left my gut tells me the chances of snow are fading.

As has been suggested a few weeks back the split in the vortex has happened in the wrong place for us to really benefit. I believe now that the Meto were bullish about their outlook because they thought the split would affect us and up until yesterday I believe their models were also suggesting this.
Living in the UK and understanding how fickle and changeable our weather can be normally gives you an open mind to the prospects of cold winter weather. However when most of the signals and the professionals say we could get severe cold you begin to believe it....
I really hope that I am wrong...

Only thing worse than getting no snow is places further south than you getting snow. It's mental torture. Horrific.

What's worse is being in what looks like one of the ideal places for snow in a certain set-up, only to get next to sod all out of it - and then see places further south (who've been moaning about a NW'ly never delivering for them) getting snow.

Last week was farcical.

For once we’ve managed to get two snow ( albeit light ) events that have hung around for twenty four hours. It’s still been a disappointing winter with only a handful of frosts recorded and five days of actually sunshine instead of the grey muck that’s hung around throughout this winter.

You know now that come March we’ll see perfect winter synoptics which for these parts results in having to get out before 9am before it all thaws.😏

Sick of the weather never really delivering for London.

We are never in the sweet spot for these sorts of events. Event the beast last year didn't really give London the snowfall I dream off.February 2009 remains my benchmark event (from a snowfall perspective) and most events have been really pathetic since then

MBY got between 1cm and 2cm (depending on surface), most of which melted yesterday (roads/pavements/paths). I know the concentration of snow was patchy across the region and even just to the east of me got about 5cm (the skeletal trees lining the M62 near Birchwood were that magical white from the snow). The journey to Rawtenstall was beautiful - the hills and valleys all resplendent in white finery.

Last week was poor, though - plenty of snow showers, nothing settling.

PS - guess who phoned in to 'work from home' yesterday, as Accrington was snowbound?   The tw*t thinks nobody in here realises.
