The rest of today has brought more in the way of clear skies and in the end, a total of 5.8 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.
Today's maximum temperature was 8.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This makes today, the coldest day of the autumn so far at all three of my local stations and if my memory serves me right, I think that this is also the first time since away back in April, that the temperature at any of my three local stations has failed to reach double figures.
The temperatures are also dropping away nicely under clear skies and what is even more interesting, is the dew points have also dropped to below freezing for the first time during this current autumn/winter season. In this instance, that just shows how dry the air is just now, but this is also one of the things which can determine whether it is cold enough to snow or not once we get to the actual winter, so I'm hoping that we will be able to see plenty more of that then.
With that in mind, the temperature at 8pm this evening was already down to 5.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
