Yet another dull start to yet another day. Unlike yesterday, it is dry this time, but that just means that we have returned to the same old borefest which we were in before, with yet more constant grey skies.

It is a lot cooler this morning though, and the temperature at 9am this morning was 8.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Heavy featureless overcast, dead calm.  Slight rain in the early hours (0.5mm) just enough to dampen the ground.  At the moment the main rain band is missing the far SE as usual, we'll see if we get rain later tonight.

21.0mm so far today since midnight, making it the wettest day of the year; in fact the wettest day since 9th August 2017.

There's another very heavy pulse of rain moving up from the Portsmouth area so I think we're going to pass 1 inch (25.4mm) today.

Have to be fair, we here at Kent did pretty well with holding onto the summer-like weather lately.

Having said that, my rain gauge does record less than other neighbouring stations, particularly when the wind is in the S or E; I think due to where I've had to site it (oh for a bigger garden!) Another weather station a couple of miles down the road in Sindlesham is now up to 50.8mm for the day.
