In a cool airmass behind the weekend's cold, wet stuff, under clear skies and light winds, in dry air due to high surface pressure, with a frail NNWly drift, parts of S and C Britian are due for a very cold September night. Much of this area (low lying) is Beeb forecast down to between 0 and 1 C. Fleeced the tomatoes and nasturtiums; moved aubergines and tropicals in.

The harvest moon looks amazing.

Benson recorded -0.6C this morning. Similar figure likely tomorrow morning.

Other southern stations to look out for that usually record low figures are Bournemouth AP (1.2C this morning) and Farnborough (1.6C this morning).

24 September 2018 21:27:22

Farnborough leading the way tonight for southern counties. Already down to 3.2C

Elsewhere Sennybridge and Katesbridge both at 2.1C

A widespread ground frost last night:

And a few places still at zero (air temperature) right now - Farnborough, Southampton, Charlwood, Senneybridge, Shobdon and Capel Curig.

The low IMBY was 4.1C at half 11 last night. It's only 4.3C now, mind you... it felt pretty cold this morning!

3.1c at 6am was the lowest here.  Surprised I didn’t have to defrost my car windscreen but hubby had to do his when he finished his night shift 15 miles away.

Down to 3.4C at home now, although as the sun's up I doubt it'll stay there for long!

A frost has appeared on the playing fields at the school where I work - I estimate it's a degree or so colder here in Sittingbourne.

-1.7 on the WS this morning - we're in a little frost hollow, so I don't think that's too far off. Lovely crisp start.

The shed roof is frosted this morning. The wall thermometer say 3C so I assume in the river valley down the road there will be a noticeable frost which is early in the season for here.

And yes the moon was impressive last night as it rose in the east and equally impressive as it set a couple of hours or so ago.

Second day with a ground frost here. 1.4C yesterday and 2.1C this morning. Looks like there will be no September air frost after all, despite all the ramping.

Down to 2c here in Exeter - Almost enough for a touch of frost, hopefully would have killed some of those silverfish, cobwebs, slugs and bugs!

Can't remember last time it got that cold in September.
