Believe it or not, the Sun is actually shining here in Edinburgh just now although how on Earth it is still managing to do so with everything else which is happening is completely beyond my comprehension. Nevertheless, a total of 24 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.
Apart from that, we have had some very heavy and at times, torrential rain during the last few hours and despite the fact that it had been completely dry at 8am this morning, a total of 9.6 mm of rain has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon along with 7.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations and in addition to that, this also makes today the wettest day of both this month and this autumn so far at both of those stations.
However, it is the wind which has been the main story of today as expected. The day started off calm enough but at 12 noon, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank was already gusting up to 48.5 mph from the SSW with even the mean wind speeds there getting up to 26.1mph. The letter box on my west facing front door is already rattling quite a lot with that, which is making it very noisy indeed, and the forecast is for this afternoon to be even worse.
Apart from that though, it is actually yet another fairly warm day although it doesn't feel all that warm in that wind. The temperature did briefly drop to 10.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank at 9am which took it to below the overnight minimum for that station which I had already reported. However, the temperature at 12 noon has now gone up to 16.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
