This was a summer of two halves with the June and the first half of July bringing a lot of hot, dry and sunny weather which resulted in an official absolute drought on a couple of occasions. The second half of July was a bit more unsettled, although this wasn't enough to prevent July from being a fairly decent month overall. However, that was then followed by a rather poor August.
Overall, the summer was warmer than average and despite the exceptionally dull August, it was slightly sunnier than average although it was a real struggle in the end to get over that finishing line due to August being so poor. It was also drier than average overall both in terms of the actual rainfall amounts and the number of official rain days. In that regard, all three summer months were drier than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts with only August being wetter than average in terms of the number of official rain days.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
