The rising Moon is trying hard to be seen through a veil of medium level cloud to my ENE (it's a shame that hours of moonlight aren't measured in the same way as hours of sunlight, although this probably wouldn't be any better just now).

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 13.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Cloudy again here now and 19 C. Weird to think that only 150 miles south the heatwave and sunshine is still going! Finished here over a week ago!

Here in Edinburgh, it had looked just after lunchtime as though we might actually get to see a sunny afternoon for once. After that, the day then descended into yet another cloudy borefest and grey nothingness and although there was some further brightness later on, we can more or less say that the August permacast has taken a hold on things again with a total of just 2.9 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

It wasn't all that warm earlier on, but it has got a little bit warmer and more humid as the afternoon has gone on which means that the temperature hasn't yet peaked for today. Therefore, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 19.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20°C at Edinburgh Airport and 20.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which is still slightly cooler than yesterday.

I was up near Lairg  from the 21st to the 28th of July and i have never seen it so dry up there the lochs were low , rivers a trickle and my relations farm quite burnt in places. On the last 3 days my car thermometer showed 25,25, 29 C just outside Bonar Bridge. The locals were going round in a stupor.

Here in Edinburgh, our permacast hell goes on with yet more constant grey skies which in the end, has resulted in yet another disappointing total of just 2.9 hours of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in that department since 5pm this afternoon.

Today's maximum temperature was 19.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20°C at Edinburgh Airport and 20.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, tonight is a bit warmer and stickier once again so that the temperature at 9pm this evening was 18.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 19°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
