A shower of rain during the early hours of this morning has resulted in 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8am, although the day is still completely dry so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Since there, there has been the odd occasional sunny interval, but with a lot of cloud still around. The result of this is that a total of just 24 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 9.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 9.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so last night was quite a cool one.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 14.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

After a dull and damp start with light rain/drizzle, it's now a lot brighter with the sun back out. As a result, it is feeling very close with the 21.4 C & 83% H = DP of 18 C (It was 19 C & 19 C DP earlier on this morning!). Also winds are much lighter now.

Can see slight bits of green returning to my lawn! But it's going to need a lot more than the 2 mm of rain so far today to revive things, although there is a chance of some thundery-type showers later on tonight.

There has been a bit of sunshine around at times, but also a lot of cloud with a total of just 1.6 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

There was also a heavy shower of rain during this morning which would have got me rather soaked if I had been caught in it. Yet rather unbelievably, this hasn't been registered at all at any of my local stations as actual recorded rainfall.

From that, the data is telling me that it has been technically completely dry during this period. Yet, I do not have to accept what that data is telling me here.

I don't think that there was enough rain from that shower to make today an official rain day at any of local stations, but at least one of those stations under these circumstances should have been recording at least 0.4 to 0.6 mm of rain given how heavy that shower was so for not even a single station to show anything at all here means that there is some far wrong as far as I'm concerned.

In addition that, the temperature is once again, refusing to rise just now and so the temperature at 12 noon was 16.9ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A rather dismal afternoon here in Edinburgh as our summer permacast has once again, recommenced with the result that a total of just 2.4 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

In addition to that, there has also been some rain, especially during the last hour or so.

At Edinburgh Gogarbank, this has now increased today's rainfall totals to 1.4 mm as at 5pm this afternoon which means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day there.

However, a total of just 0.4 mm of rain has now been recorded for today so far as at 5pm this afternoon at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where I'm not convinced that their rain gauges are actually recording all of the rain which has actually fallen.

Today's maximum temperature was 19.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 20.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so there are no problems with today's temperatures.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 15.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 16.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
