There is still a lot of cloud around, but some sunny intervals are getting through as well with 24 minutes of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Meanwhile, we are now into day 21 of the official absolute drought, and our gardens could really do with seeing some rain now, although they are unlikely to get any today yet again.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 9.9ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 11.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it was a cooler night than of late.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 14.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Rather cloudy like it has been for most of this morning, but some blue bits are appearing now as well as staying bone dry.

18.3 C under a moderate north breeze, it's the 75% H that is keeping things on the muggy side with 14 C DP.

Not much has changed from earlier on, so there is still a lot of cloud around with just 42 minutes of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as 12 noon,

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 19.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 18ºC at Edinburgh Airport, but just 16.6ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where the temperature is once again refusing to rise during today, thanks to yet another cool breeze from the NE (the temperature has actually dropped a bit there over the last couple of hours).

The Sun has come through a bit more during the course of this afternoon with 3.5 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon so that today is at least, not going to be the dullest day of this month so far like what yesterday.

Today's maximum temperature was 20.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 19ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 18.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This continues the amazing record of there just being the one day all month where the temperature has failed to reach 20ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank. However, we have only just scraped through with that today and no more and to, today was actually the second coolest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

At the moment, we are around the 18º mark for the temperature as at 5pm (once again, I am refusing to wait for any temperature data to come through on weathercast.co.uk which I don't yet have, and which I should have had by now).

Just sitting here cursing the Croatian goal when I noticed a slight smell of petrichor. Couldn't be. Just couldn't be, Could it?

And yes. It's actually raining lightly. Confirmed on radar.

Now that certainly wasn't forecast!

YES!!! C'MON CROATIA!!!

Apologies for being off topic with that but given that I have been in such a celebratory mood as a result and even having a few beers to celebrate that one, I couldn't resist that here.

Anyway and back on topic, there was some decent sunshine at times during this evening and as a result, a total of 6.4 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Had that happened yesterday, that would have resulted in it being the dullest day of this month so far but as it is, today has ended up being the second dullest day of this month so far.

That sunshine caused the temperatures to go on a late rally though during this evening which led to the earlier reported maximum temperatures being superseded by what ended up being the actual maximum temperatures of 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 19.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. Rather interestingly though, that same temperature response didn't happen at Edinburgh Gogarbank and so, total was still the second collest day of this month so far there.

As at 10pm tonight, the temperature was around the 15ºC mark.
