Rather interestingly, the wind has died down a bit here and backed round to the north. As that has happened, the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has taken a little bit of a late rally to now be at 18.0ºC as at 7pm this evening with that now being today's maximum temperature there.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

We've had some very light rain, temperature is 23.7c and the humidity seems to have jumped, feeling very muggy now.

Just driven back through London, West to South East, and experienced an interesting local weather phenomenon on the car thermometer.

26C at Evelina Road in Nunhead, 22C within one minute and less than a kilometre on the Brockley side of Telegraph Hill, at same elevation. Rarely seen the car reading move so quickly. Telegraph hill must have been tracking the marine estuary air to the East.

Technically speaking, this evening wasn't quite completely sunny. However, that is only due to 6 minutes of sunshine which were lost due to some high cloud earlier on this evening and in the end, a total of 16.1 hours of sunshine was still recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

That makes today the second sunniest day of the year so far. Today may well only be the first day of a new month, but this is a month where the daylight length will be decreasing over time from now on with that becoming more noticeable later on in the month. Because of that, it is already difficult to see today not ending up being the sunniest day of this month on the end when the final statistics for this month are compiled together as today's total is going to take some beating in that regard.

In another strange course of events, the late rally of the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which occurred during this evening, resulted in today's maximum temperature for that station of 18.5ºC being recorded there at 8pm this evening.

However, the temperatures have been falling away since then and so, the temperature at 10pm tonight was 15.5ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
