The weather still hasn't changed much from earlier on. It's still mostly overcast, although I have been able to spot just a small bit of clearer sky in the region where any clear sky is still light from the twilight which lasts all night at this time of year.

At the moment, I've not been able to get any data for any of my three local stations from weathercast.co.uk since that data just hasn't come through.

Rather than wait any longer for that, I have just picked a single random small-scale local station from wunderground and from there, I can report that the temperature is around 11ºC as at midnight.

Calm and overcast with a few brighter patches here. Fingers crossed for some rain later although I'll believe it when I see it.

Once again, normal service has been well and truly resumed with yet another dull start to yet another day. There was some brightness around just before 6am this morning with the Sun making the odd appearance, but it then wasn't long before the annual June permacast re-commenced once again with that all too familiar return to constant grey skies.

As a result of that earlier brightness, a total of 6 minutes of sunshine have been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, but with nothing at all in the way of sunshine having been recorded since 6am this morning.

In addition to that, it has also just started raining here in Edinburgh. Having said though, I can say that although that makes for a rather miserable morning, the rain will at least serve some sort of purpose since the gardens do badly need that rain after it being so dry for so long now. On the other hand, a permacast on its own with constant grey skies serves no positive purpose whatsoever, and only serves to put rather a depressing spin on things.

Last night's minimum temperature was 10.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 10.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 12.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 12.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Odd day. The forecasts show it getting to 18C early on (it’s already 18 here) and then staying there. Despite there being some sunshine and 850s rising a bit as the day goes on.

Sure enough it’s warmed up then flatlined. I was starting to think the models were wrong, but I don’t think they are. A mystery though.

A few hours sun to start and felt pleasant despite only reaching 15.9C.

Far from that now the nasty June gloom has moved in. Down to just 13.2C.

After a rather overcast start to the morning, it's cheered right up with the sun well and truly out. Much better than I thought, to be honest.

There is a bit of a south west breeze making the current 17.6 C & 78% H feel quite fresh and airy, but I can live with that.

The rain has eased off here for now, but a total of 2.6 mm of rain has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 1pm this afternoon, along with 2.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations and it is remarkable that we have already had more rain from this latest relatively flabby low pressure system than the total amount of rain which we got from Storm Hector just a few days ago.

With all of that going on as well, there has been no further additions to today's sunshine totals so that at 1pm this afternoon, there was still only that grand total of just 6 minutes of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in that department since 6am this morning as this latest permacast hell goes on.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 1pm this afternoon was 13.9ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 13.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which for all of these stations, is very disappointing for this time of year.

Turned into a horrific June day now with winter type light rain that has so far deposited only 0.2mm so not even helping with the drought.

As usual the wind is coming from the dire easterly direction giving temperatures that are lower than many a winter day. Down to 11.2C which is barely any warmer than it was during the night

Sick to death of this. So we had a few weeks of good weather. Big deal when it's just straight back to the same ridiculously awful weather that we've suffered in ridiculous quantity since 2007

In complete contrast to what Richard from Aberdeen has reported about his drought situation not being helped in any way, today has been a thoroughly wet and miserable day here in Edinburgh and after what had been a very dry first half of this month, today has brought a few shades of what happened at this time last year when we ended up experiencing our wettest June on record.

Not long after my last report on this thread, the heavens opened yet again and now, this has brought today's rainfall totals so far today, to 8.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 6.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 5pm this afternoon which makes today, the wettest day of this summer so far by quite a distance at both of those stations. At Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4.6 mm of that total fell in just one single hour between 2pm and 3pm.

The Sun did manage to make the odd appearance in between those downpours but as at 5pm this afternoon, the rather abysmal total of just 12 minutes of sunshine have been recorded for the whole of today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Today's maximum temperatures have been very disappointing for the time of year having come out at 14.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The skies are now brightening up to the south and west, and the radar maps appear to show that the last of the rain is now finally moving our of the way. Just a short while ago as well, the wind started to pick up a bit and the temperatures have dropped a bit over the last few hours.

This means that the temperature at 5pm this evening was 11.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 11.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it's not exactly "Flaming June" in this part of the world just now.

This evening has brought a gradually improving picture over time.

There were still a few showers left behind for a while even after most of the rain cleared away, and especially during the early part of the evening. That in turn, increased today's rainfall totals so far to 9.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 7.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 10pm tonight. However, it is now looking as though those should now be the final totals for today.

As the weather has improved over time, the sunshine has become increasingly more prominent with less in the way of cloud and in the end, a total of 2.4 hours of sunshine were recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 10pm tonight was 10.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 11.1ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
