'Murr sausage'. Remember that one from last year. Didn't dislike it as much as I found it intriguing.

'The 2010 winter' - for us in the far south, that was three days with snow lying, one day of thaw and that was it.

Moving to Scotland is not an acceptable solution!

Don't know if this one has been mentioned….. '…...rain turning back to snow'.

The complete misuse of the term "blizzard" to describe current conditions, when it isn't. I suspect most people have never experienced a true blizzard in the UK or it has been sometime ago.

People who, every November, try to draw idiotic similarities to November 1962 or say that a November/December 2010-esque cold spell is on the way when the models are showing a very typical early winter cold snap.

'Faux cold'.

-5C is -5C whether it's from a shallow anticyclonic inversion or deep cold polar air. It's still just as cold!

Yet some people seem to think the former doesn't really count.

The overuse of the tired old cliché "batten down the hatches" every time windy weather is being forecast.

"At least it will be mild".

Sorry, but to give an example, what consolation was that to all those poor folk in Cumbria two years ago who were flooded out of their properties and had businesses and livelihoods destroyed by Storm Desmond?!
