A unrest on Iceland's Bardarbunga volcano, which produced an eruption at Holuhraun vent in latter part of 2014 to early 2015. It may not lead to an eruption, at least not yet, but it's worth keeping an eye on;

Yes, more or less the same as the Jon Frimann update, plus a round up of other area's of interest in Iceland.

It is perhaps worth keeping an eye on things in Iceland for a while. Last night Katla had a number of large earthquakes (two over magnitude 4). The largest of these was the biggest magnitude since modern instrumentation was set up (around 60 years or so I believe).

There is no evidence of harmonic tremor as yet so it may just be a "blip" but nonetheless worth watching.

i don't think it's a blip..

katla has been having these mini swarms for a couple of months now. The frequency and intensity keeps increasing with this being the strongest so far. In between the swarms regular small micro quakes are also on the increase.

Last night's most powerful was just under M5.

Im beginning to wonder if there might be something wrong with the tremor stations around katla... Either way something is happening and the beast is waking from its slumber.

Yes, I definitely wouldn't discount something more significant but it is hard to be sure what or when.

The seismic moment graph on this link puts things into perspective...

Including this just reported. As they say it's not usual but it may indicate some form of activity (or maybe not!)

"Glacial water is flowing into Múlakvísl river, south of Mýrdalsjökull. Increased conductivity has been measured in the river and gas measurements in the area show high concentrations of sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. People are advised not to travel near the river, due to gas pollution. It is not uncommon for glacial water to flow into Múlakvísl, causing increased conductivity and gas pollution.

According to local reports, the level of the Bláfjallakvísl glacial river is unusually high. Bláfjallakvísl originates from the northern side of Mýrdalsjökull and people are advised to show caution when crossing the river.

I noticed a report earlier on from "a specialist".
Is it an anonymous reporter?.......I'm sure it fine if it's on the Iceland Met page....just wondering...

Eitherway this guy was always a good source the last time there was some action with Katla.

Today has been another very active day so far at Katla (in Iceland) and earthquake activity is still going. It could just be rumbling around but it may be a precursor to something else. Worth watching closely in my opinion.

There have  been surges of activity throughout Iceland over the past few weeks, but all have died down. According to Jon, the period from now until November is the most active time, so maybe something exciting is about to happen. An eruption in Katla is way overdue.

Activity in Katla has increased over the last 24 hours. With a greater threat of an eruption, the aviation colour code has now been increased to yellow.
