Although the models has the thundery showers passing by to the west of Kent (most likely over Hampshire and Sussex) but this convective type set up is a devil to get right anyway (like for instance, last Monday the models had my location penned down for 20 mm of rain, but only 0.3 mm actually fell).

Had a great potent little storm over Swindon about half an hour ago. Lot's of impressive fork lightning, loud ripping thunder. Moved through quite quickly. Occasional thunder still audible. Looking at the raintoday radar, appears to be some more embedded stuff developing over stroud way. Possibly hoping to see some of that as it is moving in, but not sure how many embedded storms are in there.

I can confirm that here in Gloucester a storm broke out some 2 hours ago and continued to back build thereafter !

Astonishing thunder/lightning and even now it continues to rumble away in the Cotswolds.

Temperature maxed out at 26.8 and with the front coming through at the time it did then all the ingredients were there (and for others)

Could be quite an exciting summer ahead.. (it was hard to watch the storm and watch the goals flying in for The Netherlands !

Temperatures still around 19C in southsea area... Just seen lighting lighting up the northern/ northwest skyline.

A storm near by.

Windows wide open and listening.

With a temperature of 28*C in here, I hope I can give the air that little bit of extra lift to enhance activity locally

Can't hear anything just yet, but reports are out there of some deep rumbles close to Benson, not far N of here.

Apparently the ATD lightning detection isn't doing too well at the moment, as it tends to miss cloud-cloud lightning, which makes up the majority of the action currently.

A distant rumble might just have been sensed... hard to tell over the sound of various 1st years celebrating the end of their degrees!

A risk that it misses just to the west though - in which case a good light show is possible.

Meanwhile in Reading, I'm also looking to the NW.

The lightning detector I am looking at is showing a few strikes to the east of Eastleigh around Bishops Waltham and Botley.

An active storm seems to have developed recently in the Oxford area. That is where the greatest strike returns are coming from at the moment.

Woah - just got the 23:15 radar image in, and it's one to inspire a bit of excitement! Rapid development and the feeling that the Met Office warning might be a bit misplaced...!

Can't believe I'm not hearing anything yet!

Rapid development of lightning activity now to the south and east of Didcot. Stormchaser should be in for some action very shortly I would think.

Strikes also just to the north of Stonehenge and between Hungerford and Burbage

Some suggestion of noise to the north now. That happens to be the one direction in which I have no windows anywhere in the flat

So there is definetly plent of warmth around.. I've not seen any lightning since earlier 😞 but it has clouded over and a breeze is picking up. I see in net weather radar a blob heading this way.

I can see a lot of bright lightning flashes out towards Salisbury Plain, 3 or 4 per minute, does look as though everything has missed Frome yet again.
