As discussed in the earthquake thread it might be worth keeping an on events in Iceland on coming days. Increasing seismic activity suggests an eruption of sorts may be imminent.

Yes, although the seismic activity is still ongoing at a constant and frequent level I was surprised to see the alert level changed to orange. What will happen next I wonder.

There was a 1.7 at - 0.2 km earlier today.

Not too sure what that might imply?.(mabey it could be steam from percolated water?).

But it seems very shallow.

I think most them seem to be to do with magma movement (the harmonic tremor and increased alert level would support this). None of it means that an eruption or one that breaches the ice surface (which is hundreds of metres thick) is imminent but it does suggest that the likelihood of one has had/is increasing.

I wouldn't give much for any trend analysis on that chart, let alone the straight line shown. Just a lot of small quakes all over, whatever that might mean.

A new intense swarm of quakes in progress, and this lot seem to be a little shallower then the last lot.

For anyone interested Nature has a very good overview of the recent situation and possibilities and why a repeat of Eyjafjallajökull's ash cloud related problems is thought to be unlikely re. recent events in Iceland.
