After seeing the horlicks he made at Liverpool, I dreaded the appointment.
I don't think he's particularly worked miracles with England, though. Over the course of every game we've been like a boxer playing the ropes, absorbing punches yet blocking most with a rugged but accomplished defence, then occassionally letting loose with a solid right cross or uppercut. Those tactics will take you so far, but you'll come undone against the top class opponents.
Then again, the squad he picked is unquestionably limited in skill and technical ability. However, he's sacrificed what little flair and skill we have with organisation and a gameplan designed to negate the threat of the opposition.
Maybe that gives England their best chance of progression in this tournament. But boy is it awful to watch.
