Worth saying that despite the French pressure, England have defended this last 25 mins very well

Yeah we should be happy with a 1-1 draw. Very solid opening game in difficult conditions 🙂

Happy with that, thought we played well, soaked up pressure when needed and looked half decent when on the counter.

Let's hope the French find it difficult against a hostile Ukraine crowd in there next game  and we just need to break the Sweden jinx

So, what is the best result for England from this game? I think another draw.

I can see England coming unstuck against Ukriane in front of a stadium full of their own fans, but Sweden is winnable.

The only game I've seen which I've not enjoyed so far was Holland v Portugal. Certainly a more relaxed feel to this tournament.

Just seen the following on the Twatter account of Henry Winter. They're not daft, those Ukrainians.

"Trumpetgate update: FA had agreement with Uefa for band to come in. Ukraine said no. 1st time in 18 years no band at a game"

I think the key for England is to remain focused but also relaxed. Hodgson appears to have got things about right in terms of ambience around the squad and confidence will come if they play well. I'm expecting nothing from this tournament and that's the way to view it IMO. Anything we get is then a bonus. The 2 teams now playing are showing enough frailty to be vulnerable so I don't think we'll fear either on the day

My views on the England-France game are a bit mixed, but first off I think the referee was terrible. So many bad decisions, especially in France's favour. England were actually the stronger looking side in the first 30mins or so, and by far the worse team after scoring, but picked up again at the start of the second half. Milner, I'm afraid, I don't think is up for the position he's put in. He is a good player, and has delivered some impressive performances, but I simply don't think he's quick enough. I think Adam Johnson would have been better in that position. Danny Welbeck played very well, as did Oxlade-Chamberlain. Pretty interesting game overall, with France just edging out to be the better team (especially in terms of possession, but I tell you - they ain't no Spain, I'm afraid.

Pretty good performance, that - much more encouraging than I'd been expecting. The midfield 4 were immense and the back 4 solid - and cos they played with the back 4 higher up the field (esp 1st half), they boxed the French in for long periods, keeping them at arms length of the goal.

It was light years away from the dross served up last world cup.

Good result for England, going forward was fairly poor but in defence England were superb. We have given ourselves a chance to get to the quarter final. Sweden and Ukraine are beatable but we will need to play well. Should be 2 great games coming up.

Yes, I was pleasantly suprised about how well England played. The young lad Oxlade-Chamberlain was trying a bit too hard and most of what he tried didn't come off. But I'd rather that than someone who just plods along not offering anything. I too thought Wellbeck had a great game. He's a real prospect and him and Rooney playing together I think could cause a few issues and problems for opposing defences.

A slight niggle was that we looked out on our feet in the last 10-15 minutes. Parker looked exhausted when he came off. Henderson would not be my idea of a replacement for Parker either. I can't remember him touching the ball when he came on. I know it was hot and humid out there, but France seemed to keep going without creating too much.

A solid 7/10 performace

I feel great! so maybe I might just

England done ok, a win against Sweden to give them 4pts going into the last game is a must. Ukraine will be no pushovers

I must admit i didnt think england would do so well. Great play esp lescott gerrard and hart. The team looks like he start of a good england team better than 2010 with balance. Will be interesting now esp as sweden lost how well we do . Milner could do with shooting practace 🙂

I was quite surprised at the negativity in the press this morning, I thought we were far better on the ball and far more compact than we have been for a long time and whilst we didn't get the final ball right, everything up to that point was pretty good.

Hope raised slightly I must say

Encouraging, but I think Sweden & Ukraine will both note that you can nullify England to a certain extent by closing them down quickly and getting a foot in. It's up to Hodgson to pre-empt this and devise a way of counteracting it. Quick, crisp passing and players making themselves available, in order to get the opponents chasing shadows would help.

A good result against a very good team, what was nice was the lack of fear we played with last night. Also passing was good much better than 2 years ago in South Africa. We need to beat Sweden now though and Hodgson will have to change tactics and be more attacking. Sweden also need to win so hopefully as they come at us we can punish them on the counter, it should be a good game.

Looking forward to Poland Russia tonight should be a lively affair. Overall this tournament has been one of the better ones no boring games so far and wide open as to who will win it.

Admittedly I only saw the last 25 mins or so, but during that spell England's passing was poor. They barely strung 3 or 4 passes together, and it was the usual thing of players receiving the ball at 100mph, with their back to goal, marshalled by at least two opposition defenders in close proximity, and they invariably concede possession. I assume the first hour was far better?
