I'm sure you'll probably notice that but might not realise that just now, but you have actually just created (no doubt accidentally of course) a second version of this thread which means that there currently two of these threads kicking around as I write. However, I'm sure that you will get around to deleting the duplicate thread over time (even if anyone else posts anything on that other thread, you will at least be able to use your additional privileges as a mod to deal with that).

Back on topic though, it's dry but overcast here in Edinburgh with the temperatures refusing to drop, and stuck at around 8°C.

Thanks - another manifestation of the bug which occasionally inserts duplicate posts? Anyway, duplicate deleted.

Currently 10C cloudy here.

A disappointing cloudy day here and quite cool at 12 C this afternoon. Feeling autumnal, we reached 14 C briefly at lunchtime

Much colder today than recent days despite first fake 12-13C uppers today since September fake ones.  Had to wear long pants and jumper when i went to the post office compare to shorts and t-shirts days.

Under the new system which I am currently using which uses gridded data for my exact location, the temperature is currently 15.1°C here in this part of NW Edinburgh. At the botanic gardens, the current temperature is just slightly warmer at 15.3°C. This is showing that new system is still holding up well. The botanic gardens are just along the road from where I live, but closer to the city centre, so I expect those two temperatures to be fairly similar and with the location that is closest to the city centre being slightly warmer due to the greater urban heating effect. That indeed appears to be the case, even though the figure for the botanic gardens comes from raw BUFR/SYNOP data for that particular station rather than any gridded data.

As for the weather, it's mostly overcast with the odd drizzly shower earlier on. The localised gridded data for here can even give me the sunshine totals for here. The nearest major station which can give out that info from its raw SYNOP/BUFR data is at Gogarbank and that figure for Gogarbank doesn't always completely agree with the much more localised figure for here. For now though, there has been no recorded sunshine here so far today.

It has been said for some time now by many that with the ongoing El Nino event, this autumn was going to end up being wetter and stormier over time but we're now just about halfway through the autumn and I can see absolutely no signs of that happening just yet.

After having been quite cloudy and breezy thus kept it cool and fresh all day today, the wind has just died right down now but persistent drizzle making the 1.8 mm, current 17 C and a very swampy 98% humidity making it feel all swampy and wet. The local mollusc population is loving it, which I've noticed when I just walked outside to put rubbish in wheelie bin.

This is getting ridiculous now. It's a mid October night at almost 10pm, yet the temperature at Gogarbank is still at around 17°C.

Absolutely pathetic!!😡

Yesterday was completely sunless both locally at my location here in NW Edinburgh according to Met Office gridded data, and at Gogarbank. There was then some overnight night and even a few shower this morning, but everything has now brightened up very nicely with an hour of sunshine having already been recorded for today so far here in my part in NW Edinburgh.

Last night was an exceptionally warm night but the temperatures have been gradually dropping over the last few hours after the cold front had moved through. Had that not happened, we might easily have been looking at last night being our warmest October night on record. Given that it's not yet 9am though, we don't even need to worry about any high minimum temperature date records being set now as the temperature at the botanic gardens (the station which is used for determining temperature records for here in Edinburgh) has now dropped to below the required value for that.

That said though, it's still not even the least bit cold with the temperature here in my part of NW Edinburgh at 13.1°C.

Had an unexpectedly torrential, but brief, spell of rain as the front passed through before clear skies arrived from the west.

After having been dull and damp (but only trace amount rainfall) for most of the day, the cold front back edge clearance has just arrived here with sunshine. Temperature just shot up to 21.3 C where it is feeling that Summer 2026 isn't quite done with us just yet. If this is the modern Autumn, I'll take it.

Haven't kept up with the forecast lately but whatever front is moving in, it is starting to show some heft. Lights on already! About 15/16c.
