Same here, 8.5mm and sun coming out. Not one rumble of thunder and to be honest completely underwhelming. Temp is a very humid 19.3c

However, we have seen throughout this summer that this generally doesn't tend to stop us from getting our usual 20+°C maximums here in Edinburgh these days and today is probably going to be yet another example of that with the temperature here in Edinburgh currently at around 19°C.

With much brighter skies developing though, I still wouldn't be surprised if there was a late rise in the temperature to give us our usual 20+°C maximum.

Mostly cloudy through the day but the sun has broken through now, humid with a DP of 18c - 23.8c currently.

During that brighter phase those, the temperature at Gogarbank briefly rose to around 20°C so although that isn't shown in the hourly and 10 minute data, the 18z raw BUFR data will probably end up showing that we've still had our usual 20+°C maximum anyway.

Currently around 18°C as I write.

Update for today = 18mm. a fine clear day here now with a gentle breeze.

In the end, the really dismal total of just half an hour of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Gogarbank which still leaves us needing a total of at least 0.3 hours (which is 18 minutes) of sunshine between now and the end of this month in order for this summer to go down as being sunnier than average. There are now only 4 days left of this month after today and a sunnier than average month overall is now very unlikely here.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh, so it's actually slightly warmer than at this time last night although it doesn't feel like that with the wind coming in from off the North Sea.

It's also been a warm and sticky night here with the temperatures no lower than than their current value of around 15°C here in Edinburgh.

It's 15.1C here, dew 14.0 - and I was thinking how much fresher it feels compared to recent nights, which have hovered around 20C. Back in the 90s 15C would have been very warm, and I note with a wry grin that we always seemed to have a warm spell just before the new school year started... worrying about that, struggling to sleep due to the warmth, it was the typical "back to school" feeling!

Anyway - no rain overnight, the overnight low was 15.0 and yesterday's high was a sticky 26.1.

Added a further 12mm to the earlier 18mm. 30mm total from the storms here.

It's a mild start, overnight temperature only down to 15 C. The monthly mean at Swanston is running at 15.6 C (+1 C)

It's been a duller than average month so far with 130 hrs of sun (84%)

Another 4 days to go so things will change slightly but August has been dry, mild and dull at this point. I dislike August and never feel that it's summery.

It's incredible that it's now just 8:30am and yet, it still hasn't got light enough for me to be able to switch off my lights at home. That is something which wouldn't normally be the case until around October or even November but that just shows how gloomy this morning actually is here.

This month is clearly going to be duller than average now but I had expected the criteria to have been met by now for this summer to be sunnier than average, so I'm astonished that this hasn't yet happened. I am still convinced that this will eventually happen (we only need at least another 18 minutes of sunshine for that over what is almost four days), but that is only because of July being a very sunny month.

As is always the case though, this month will be going down as being both warmer and drier than normal as per usual for here these days (I just wish that I could report something different from that for a change).

Swanston started the day around 15 C and hasn't reached 16 C by lunchtime 🙄

We've lost that wind from off the North Sea, so we're no longer getting that east coast haar and yet, absolutely nothing has changed here apart from that as our late summer permacast hell goes on.
