So much for the promise of rain - as expected, the band has fizzled out over my part of Kent, although there's some rain to the west and much heavier rain to the east, over the sea. 

Dry, overcast, warm and humid. 17.1, dew 15.6. The overnight low so far is 15.9 and yesterday's high was 23.1.

Radar showed a few showers over us yesterday evening but must have been high level.

Best chance of rain for here will be the front on Saturday coming in on a more regular track from the S.W..

Yesterday's high-level showery activity at dusk gave a few spits at ground level before the clouds decayed. The BBC is yet again bullish about heavy, thundery rain moving up from the south tonight with what was an 85% chance an hour ago now reduced to 84% as I type. Crying wolf rain I guess but what do I know? One day they'll be correct of course and it will biblically tip down with no stopping it. Otherwise it's calm and sunny at 18C. I see from the latest radar it's irrigating the sea somewhere off the Thames estuary.

Yay! Not the forecast yellow thunderstorm warnings or torrential rain risking localised floods but it rained around 5.00am -5.30am. Just 2.5mm but it 2/3 filled the water butts and represents my first rainfall for 63 days. Wasn't it same forecast for the South which looks to have missed out this time. Now the drought has broken I look forward to some more this week.

On the west coast of the Outer Hebrides, perhaps different from expectations, it’s yet another in a sequence of lovely sunny days - slightly hazy just now, but looks likely to clear. Temperatures have been in the 18 - 21 range, so great for activities, with enough breeze to keep the midges away. Off topic, but there has been a notable influx of European visitors in their camper vans to the north west of Scotland this summer. Germans most commonly, but even Italians in some numbers, often with kayaks, surf boards etc - escaping the heat, for “coolcations”.

As reported, another cloudy & breezy day in Edinburgh. We have reached 16 C so a chilly feel. An easterly will rarely bring us any good!

Just as quickly as that low cloud came in, it has now completely gone with some hazy sunshine returning. In addition to that, today is also forecast to be warmer than yesterday, so we will probably see yet another 20+°C maximum despite a wind from off the North Sea and maybe even a decent sunshine total after all to keep us in with at least a slim chance of this month being sunnier than average.

Easterly winds are not usually good news for those of us on the east coast but once again, that still hasn't prevented us from achieving our usual 20+°C maximum here in Edinburgh as today's maximum temperature was 20.88°C at Gogarbank and 19.44°C at the botanic gardens where it was slightly cooler due to that wind from off the North Sea though not by all that much.

In a way, I'm actually enjoying the fact that I'm not sweltering here in my flat so from that context, I can't say that this easterly hasn't brought me any good.

In addition to that, today was also sunnier than yesterday but with a total of only 4.1 hours of sunshine and today has ended on a dull and overcast note with more easterly muck coming in from off the North Sea.

That now leaves us needing a total of only at least 48 minutes (0.8 hours) of sunshine to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this summer to go down as being sunnier than average with five days still left to go of this month.

Exceptionally warm and humid, a good deal of cloud around but dry so far.

20.2, dew 19.0, the low so far being 19.7. Yesterday's high was 23.1 - average - but still with very high dewpoints. It felt much warmer than it was!

Indeed David see a previous post of yours I've just read. 

Last night's performance was a Classic. The Low left France tumescent in Gallic splendour, shot most of its impressive load over the Channel and arrived on British shores in its refractory period. Just the damp residues of what might have been a full watery dump over Southern England were left in my rain gauge.

It has now recovered somewhat. Why?  And it seems according to the radar that it’s now ravaging the Welsh borders as I type. It also looks like there is a secondary attack coming off the Channel for Kent from one of its mates. 

Currently bright and calm at 18.5C.

Saturday, as Bledur pointed out, looks like the time for the proper party but we'll have to wait and see.

Best to use the rainfall radar in these situations.  Amazed to see thunderstorms exploding into life ahead of the main rain band. They’ve now grown and merged into a wide band heading NNW, currently across north Cambridgeshire.

Yes, and I don’t use the predictive radar for that reason. When you watch these kind of storms breaking out they can appear from nowhere, explode into an intense cell, multiply and then fade away again.

6mm from it so far. A useful amount, but I'm looking enviously at 10 miles to the south where they've had over 20mm!
