I brought this up in another thread, but to avoid derailing that OT, I thought I'd make a new thread.

The reason this specifically popped into my mind was because the June and September maxima were both exactly the same at 35.6c until this June set the new record of 38.0c. Given that, does that mean it's also possible to hit 38.0c in September? Or was the June 35.6c record unusually low compared to other monthly maxima, and 'due' for a beating, compared to the 35.6c in September which was already well above what the maximum should be?

Interesting topic is can be possible first the sea temps are at the highest peak that stay to after mid month.  Second is to see 40 in northern France to deliver here as home grown heat is not strong enough to deliver 38C and third very dry ground to support.

This month saw 38.1 achieved a bit later than 10th Aug 2003.   It was good results but my memory now was extremely disgusted behaviour in other side full of heat haters dismissing and attacking GFS who been fully correct and target those who like summer warmth.  

I really like to see 38C to happen in our life time very soon.  Not sure if next month can be but with rain in France and average temps then not this time but like to see a last 30 or so before summer ends.

There are instances of temperatures of 34.6 to 35.6 from the early 20th century (1906 and 1911 from Torro date records) and it is clear that maximum temperatures (at least in the south of the UK) have increased by over 3C since then so a temperature of 38C is definitely attainable in early September IMO
