All focus, eclipse wise, is on the solar one but before dawn on the 28th August 2026, there will be a large partial lunar eclipse peaking about magnitude 0.93

BST times

The penumbral stage starts 2.23 am

The partial phase starts 3.33 am

Maximum occurs at 5.12 am

The moon sets during the partial phase. Moonset timings depends on your location.

Maximum eclipse occurs lowish down in the WSW sky. Roughly about 8 degrees above the horizon.

Thanks for that KD. I'd not started thinking about that one yet! Here's the RMG Eclipse page with the details.

NASA's eclipse page is useful:

Less than a week to go and the weather looks ropey.

Not sure what it is with lunar eclipses but compared to solar eclipses, the weather has largely not played ball.

July 2018 lunar eclipse was galling. Had hours and hours of glorious sunshine that summer then come the evening of the eclipse, clouds. During the frigid December 2010, it was gin clear overhead except in the area of the eclipse.  Last year, there were two lunar eclipses that should have been visible but saw neither because of cloud.

Our previous home was isolated, in a fen with good dark skies. Here there is more light pollution, which tenss to spoil the seeing. Nevertheless, we'll be trying,
