Just looking at some of these for here at Laindon, S.Essex and they are quite staggering with the length of heat now. Unfortunately I don't have sunshine hours but I suspect they will be off the charts as a lot of hot days in '76 I seem to recollect started off with mist or low cloud and that has rarely been the case this summer.

So I have now had 62 consecutive days with a max temp of over 22C. During that spell starting in June there have only been just 4 days that failed to reach 25C and one of those was yesterday! Last measurable rain was a heavy shower that lasted for an hour or so producing 15mm on June 23rd.

Add to that the fact that there was only 33.6mm during the entire Spring months of March, April and May and the first heatwave in the last week of May that had 3 days of 30C+ and a max of 34.6C !

Yes some crazy stuff for sure.

Prior to this year the month with the hottest average daily max was July 2018 (that is in 15 years of my records), which in some ways was almost perfect given there were only 3 30c days.

So far this summer our average daily max since the start of June is 26.6c, which obviously will climb with next week's forecast. That will be 2 and half months with a higher average daily max than the previous record single month.

Rainfall is obviously also off the scale (pun intended), now up to 46 days with nothing measurable so likely to close in on 60 days if the latest GFS Ops are correct. Edit - if the 12z were to be correct, there's nothing down here out to the 23rd August.
