A sunny morning with dew on the grass. For the first time in several weeks it was actually a cooler-than-average night and it feels amazing outside!

15.3, dew 14.3, with the overnight low being 12.6 (the lowest since the 15th June, and cooler than any night in July). Yesterday's high was 25.0... not long ago I'd have considered that a very warm day, but these days it barely warrants mention.

Today's maximum temperatures across Edinburgh and the Borders was 22.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20°C at Edinburgh Airport, 19.99°C at the botanic gardens, 20.2°C at Swanston in the south of August and 21.58°C at Charterhall in the Borders.

This means that the first 20+°C maximum of this month has now been recorded at all of the above stations with the exception of the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and even there, you can't get any closer to getting a 20+°C maximum without that actually happening.

I will be travelling back to Edinburgh tomorrow, but I'm not there just now. Nevertheless, my experiences of living in the north of Edinburgh (I have also lived in Leith in the past) tells me that there has probably been a North Sea influence at play here which has prevented a 20+°C maximum from being recorded today at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Down here in Hawick, today was the best day weatherwise for quite a while. There was plenty of sunshine from the word go although it has now clouded over during the course of this evening, and there has been virtually no wind all day apart from a very slight breeze at times.

Today has also felt warm in the sunshine, though never all that hot.

Currently around 16°C here.

Calm, clear blues skies with the sun peeping above the trees to the ENE - it's that much lower in the sky now compared to June. It's very warm and humid, 20.2, dew 17.4. There's meant to be a breeze from the sea later on which should cap things in the mid to high 20s, tomorrow will be the peak of this round here.

Last night's low was 18.7 and yesterday's high was 24.6.

The drought continues, with the last measurable rain (0.2mm) on the 30th June.

Meanwhile, north of the Sahara, normality prevails. Steady rain since 5 a.m. and 13 C (Min 10 C)

It's 'Coolwave' No. 5 underway for us!

I will be travelling back up to Edinburgh later on after my two week break down here and I’m expecting it to be mostly dry by then even in Edinburgh, although there is expected to still be a lot of cloud around even after that.

Currently around 13°C down here.

Up here in Scotland's capital city we have reached 16 C

The rain has stopped but it's still very cloudy and grey

I was at Waverley Station earlier watching the train from King's Cross. Hundreds of folk getting off dressed in t-shirts, shorts & sandals! 😂

Hope they have something warm and waterproof!!

An improvement from the cool grey morning. The sun has appeared and it's almost 20 C, despite the East wind

After my 2 week break in Hawick, I am now back in Edinburgh but since I started today down in the Borders, I will report today's maximum temperatures across Edinburgh and the Borders as before.

These are 19.88°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17.99°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport, 19.8°C at Swanston in the south of Edinburgh and 21.29°C at Charterhall down in the Borders.

This doesn't happen very often but today was actually cooler than it was forecast to be, especially here in Edinburgh due to that North Sea effect. There were no 20+°C maximums here in Edinburgh today and this means that the wait for the first 20+°C maximum of this month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh now goes on for at least another day.

However, there was another 20+°C maximum at Charterhall which is much further inland than any of the Edinburgh stations. After coming home from a relatively warm Hawick earlier on today, it actually feels a bit chilly here in NW  Edinburgh with that wind coming in from off the North Sea.

The rain in Hawick cleared away by lunchtime but on my journey north, I then ran into another shower of rain as I approached Newtongrange in Midlothian. Here in Edinburgh, there was then a further shower of rain in the early part of this evening. In between all of that, it has been mostly cloudy with only a little bit of hazy sunshine at times.

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh

Another typical 2026 summer's day. Calm, clear, warm and humid. It could well be another 30+ day here, and if not it'll be close.

19.3, dew 18.3, following a low of 16.5. Yesterday's high, with a wind off the sea for much of the time, was 24.6.

29.1, dew 17.6, just the odd puff of wind from the SW. Clear blue skies of course, and utterly useless weather for doing anything much outside!

EDIT: 30.1 now, the 9th day this extended summer to hit 30 and, to my knowledge, the first time it's happened four months in a row here.
