Heatwave No 5 is to all intents and purposes on. 30C to 32C early this coming week.  Another longer spell apparently on from 9/10th onwards.

As promised I've moved heatwave No 4 thread to the classics section, if anyone wants to refer to it.

BTW, I have to say there's some really excellent contributions from those on here on these topics. Thanks and well done everyone.  🙂🙂🙂🙂

GFS 06z is buliding a large high pressure system from the West next weekend into the following week.

Note, other models like the ECM has high pressure buliding abit earlier than this.

GFS is still not having any meanful rainfall for the south next week. It is a  Low Resolution so maybe the model won't pick up on showers however. Tuesday looks the best chance.

This option is gathering more and more support. Fits in with expectations for mid month to be very warm to hot. I'd say 9th-10th onwards.

What are our odds of seeing some ⚡💥⚡💥 from this upcoming mini Spanish plume?

Arpege 0z,

29c, 33c ,32c, 27c.

Not spectacular like we've been used too, but decent enough.

It's also been under doing the temps by a degree or two recently.

Wisley 29.5c , Maybe Charlwood is legit?

29.6 seems to be the highest other station, so once again Charlwood is over a degree hotter than anywhere else. Gatwick hasn't been above a rounded 28 and the two stations are only two miles apart.

If Charlwood is accepted then that is 33 30C+ days which means we should break the record for most 30C days in a year on Tuesday.

With a light easterly wind (as was the case today) the air could pass from Gatwick - I assume the observation station is near the terminal building at the east end of the runway - 3.7km straight down the length of the runways to Charlwood where the station is not in the village but on the Birchfield Estate  just 1km west of the end of the runway.

I've emailed the Met Office about Charlwood,  see what the reply will be.

The ultra dry weather may be accentuating the conditions locally. We'll see

Regarding tomorrow's max, the GFS has nudged the temperature down a degree or so - still some 35C gridpoints but the 35C isotherm has almost vanished. I would expect to see the 15Z UKV update drop to 34 now.

So looks like we are back to 31 30c days.

Bit of a shame, but it didn't look right.

One thing I would say is that the Met Office are very good at replying to queries.

However it's worth mentioning that both those stations were right in the area modelled to be hottest today. Hopefully tomorrow will see a decent reading at a station that is working properly!

Wisley the hotspot yesterday then with 29.6c
