The only technical term I can think of to describe July is bonkers, what a crazy month.

A mean of 21c (1c higher than previous), Mean Max of 29.2c (2.7c higher than previous), 11 days of >30c (previous most in a year was 11) and zero rain.

Other than that, completely normal 😎

Conclusion

July 2026 was a warmer than average month overall.

It was also a drier than average month both in terms of the average rainfall amounts and in terms of the number of official rain days.

Finally, July 2026 was a substantially sunnier than average month but it was only our first sunnier than average month of this summer and our first sunnier than average month since April.


The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The Quest For Rain continues after having recorded 0.0 mm of rain for the whole of this July at my Folkestone Harbour back yard rain gauge. While parts of our county did receive a little bit of rain recently and there are actually some showers peppering East Kent right now, my lawn continue to resemble Arthur Scargill's hair.
