It's the carnival day in Leysdown today, and the TV crews will be there to film (Danny Dyer is doing a series about running a holiday camp). It's the sort of day that'll have them purring with pleasure: clear blue skies, next to no wind and very warm, if not hot later on.

17.6, dew 13.9, with temperatures rising quickly in the last half-hour. The overnight low was 15.3 and yesterday's high was a very warm 28.0.

Cloudy and breezy, 15 C. The 2nd period of light rain is approaching. Like last night's rain, I'll be amazed if we get 1mm

Tomorrow's rain looks a bit more substantial and we are forecast rain or showers for Mon to Wed

The cold front is through. It gave drizzle. Sunny spells and the odd drizzly shower now but a Force 5 westerly taking the edge off 17 C!

After a little bit of overnight rain (I have posted more details of that on this month's precipitation thread in order to resurrect that thread and prevent those details from cluttering up this thread too much), normal service has once again been resumed with that same old mix of cloud and sunshine which greets every single day now with virtually nothing else happening.

My Apple Watch is saying that it's only around 15°C here in Hawick but I don't think that it's as cool as that because the temperature at Charterhall is currently around 17°C whilst the temperature up in Edinburgh is around 18°C which if anything, is actually slightly warmer than it was at this time yesterday and I don't think that today is as windy as yesterday either.

Still mostly cloudy and windy here in Hawick with gusts of up to around 34mph from the SW at Charterhall, and with only the odd brighter interval at times.

That is making it feel rather cool here, almost to the point of even feeling a little bit chilly at times and yet, the 20+°C maximums still keep on refusing to go away even under these conditions.

Currently 20.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and 19.6°C at Charterhall where it will no doubt be over 20°C fairly shortly.

Here in Hawick, there’s now more in the way of sunshine although there’s still some cloud around and there was even a brief very light passing shower of rain just as I was heading out a wee while ago, something which I haven’t actually witnessed for a very long time.

Currently around 19°C here.

Garden thermometer max just under 30°C here at 4pm this afternoon. I wonder what RAF Coningsby or Waddington got: I'll have a look.

RAF Coningsby temperature 26°C

RAF Waddington 25°C

It's been very gusty all day which makes it a bit more tolerable.

The highest official so far is Wisley 29.7, at 15:37 BST, but I'd imagine a 30 will be reported at some point (NW's numbers lag by an hour or so).

I still reckon Brogdale will be over 30 but we'll probably never know - such a shame it's not an auto station.

Still 29.4 here, FWIW, the max being 30.4 earlier. At least that's one advantage of being in late July compared to late June, the sun's that bit lower in the sky and the evening cooldown starts a bit sooner.

Had a lovely evening and night down in Bristol yesterday, temps felt so much more comfortable with a breeze coming off the river.

Here it got to 29.7c and then 29.1c today, although already down to 22.9c now so a cooler evening than of late.

Today's maximum temperatures in Edinburgh and the Borders were 21.37°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 22.03°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and 22.59°C at Charterhall so today was warmer than yesterday yet again despite the slightly less settled synoptic setup.

Currently around 17/18°C across Edinburgh and the Borders.
