I appreciate this isn’t the forum for it, but the spin is absolutely what they’re doing. Nudge and wink, leave the reader to draw the conclusion. Same as when they report crimes with a hint at the “foreign” sounding name of the perpetrator.

2026 is the year of the endless Summer

Last month it was 17.0 when the CET was 17.4, but in July 2006 it was 19.0 to the CET of 19.8.

The score to beat is July 2006’s 186.44. Second place is 2018, then 2013, 1989 and 1976. 2006 had temp 19.0, rainfall a very beatable 43mm, and sunshine an also record breaking 287.6 hrs.

We’d get the top spot (just) if, for example, we end up with temp 18.6C, rain 20mm, sun 280hrs.

Close but no cigar.

Uncertain, the ECM 10 day mean shows us on the border of the heat dome. A few hundred miles west or east is going to make a big difference.  It could be very wet as suggested.  Or not.  More runs needed!

The MetO raw has gradually increased from 26 or 27 up to 29 or 30 now, and if I were a betting man I'd reckon we'll end up with something like 33 or 34, but we'll see. 

It does seem (unfortunately from my POV) that the SE will be the hottest this time, no refreshing NE'lies to save us!

I’m sticking with this. UKMO not really having it. Feels like GFS is somewhat on its own in the intensity, which remains on the overnight run 

GFS seem persisting with those high temps and with so much heat in Europe this have to go north which in time Scotland might join with 30C to high 30s in South.  Seeing those low 40s right to the coasts facing Uk surely 40 or 41 is possible in SE.  The already high SSTs won’t moderate much.  29C here yesterday and today about same then mid 20s tomorrow before going to low 30s to mid 30s next week.  

Scotland remains in fresher west or north-west winds for the next 2 weeks with temperatures around 17 - 21 C which are normal summer temperatures

I can't imagine seeing an official heatwave up here now. Our last one's were back in 2022 & 2018 and our warmest July remains 2018

Hope further runs bring the warmth to the north as it seem very cold to me and this split is very severe and not happened before with temps gradients.  Past splits usually up to 5 to 10C difference but this time more liks 15 to plus 20C in a small landmass and same position since May.  Since GFS are so persistanace and only few days away hope they are right to allow the poor north get some much needed warmth and drier weather.  GFS ensembles for here it between 15-17c with quite a few to 20C mark so I fully expecting low to mid 30's here.  

If it stays relatively cloud free today we should squeeze a 30c.
