It seems like the airport stations must have two different thermometers, as the rounded METAR reports are often wildly out of sync with the SYNOP figures. Eg Exeter just reported 31C at 1520Z when the 1500Z reading was 29.0.

We might just squeeze out one last 30c tomorrow by the looks of things - Yeovilton or Merryfield look favourites.
Currently living at roughly 65m asl North of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Formerly of, Birdlip, highest village in the Cotswolds and snow heaven in winter; Hawkinge in Kent - roof of the South downs and Isles of Scilly, paradise in the UK.

30.7c the max here today, bringing the end of our 30s in all likelihood for a week at least but we'll see.

The 19th 30c+ day of a remarkable year so far, the previous most I've recorded here was 11 in a year. Still at just over 30.1c as the average daily max for July, not including today's higher value.

Sp fourth place in my lifetime. That’s on its own without considering the May and June events.

At the end of summer (30 Sept unless there’s an October heatwave expected) I’ll calculate the seasonal score, which I think will blow other years out of the water.

I wonder how many days in the 1980s reached or exceeded 30C. Any ideas?

The 1960s only managed 25 in the entire decade - so we've already had more this year than in the whole of the 1960s! The 1970s had 60. The 2020s have already had 105, as of today, which beats the previous decade record holder, the 1990s (with 104), and we're only two thirds of the way through the decade.

With less of a breeze shot back up to 30.2C this afternoon. Doesn't feel as hot. Probably getting acclimatised to an extent now although low humidity helps. (Not my 50 year old Silver Birch tree though, now all leaves brown, no green. 😮

Tempting blue-black clouds with radar showing rain about 5-10 miles away. Frustrating. Out with the b****y watering cans again then.

Try doing this with gardens as full of plants as ours. Takes me 2-3 hours every evening.

BTW looks like 31.3C was the final max yesterday at Ross-on-Wye.
