17C and breezy with about 50% cumulus cloud cover. It actually felt almost cold when I went into the garden this morning, a novel sensation!

18c with uniform cloud cover and a sturdy wind, I have had to put a lightweight cardigan on as it's feeling very cool, so far today.

Hurn (Bournemouth Airport) leading the pack by a decimal or two; 28.4C at 1300.

Valentia Observatory (extreme SW of Ireland) 28.2C at 1400 - must be even more unusual than the same temp in the Isle of Wight!

20-21C today with a brisk cooling breeze. Still hot in direct sunshine, but otherwise very pleasant. But no prospect of rain in the near future.

Looking at the fields around here, the wheat has been harvested, the maize is growing well, the grass is still mostly green but it won't take much to dry that out. A few shed leaves from the hazel trees (which always seem to suffer most) and everything else has that late-August slightly faded look about it.

21.2, dew 17.4, the high so far being 21.7.

19 C the maximum in Edinburgh south side. Suspect it's been a bit cooler on the north side near the sea. A mostly sunny day again. John will have the statistics later 🙂

I can already confirm (I don't need to run any python scripts for that) that today's maximum temperature was 19.38°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but only 17.61°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so no 20+°C maximum today due to there still being too much of a wind coming in from off the North Sea which has resulted in today being slightly cooler than yesterday although it has still been slightly warmer than the official Met Office predictions.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh

Seeing a faint trail of smoke here in the northern sky and looking at the sat, it seems it may have originated all the way from what looks like some sort of grassfire near Manchester!

As at 8:40pm BST (19:40 UTC) this evening, a total of 11.7 hours of sunshine was recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

We're now 41.9% of the way through this month but this month's sunshine total as I write is now amounting to 43.9% of the 1991-2020 July average, so we've now gone ahead of where we would expect to be at this stage of the month in terms of sunshine. This confirms that normal service has now been resumed in terms of it usually always being drier and sunnier than average after that duller blip over the last couple of months with that difference only looking likely to grow even wider over time as the outlook continues to look very sunny. To be honest, I'm not so sure that I even want to continue reporting that any more as it's just become really boring now.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh

Another 'refreshingly cool' sic start at 18C. After yesterday's teaser of the Brittany showers moving north, it seems we are back to square one in the rainfall predictions. The BBC and Met Office have now dropped the mention of watery matter falling from the sky. Maybe the odd shower for Cornwall. The continuing brisk winds are working hard to extract what little remaining moisture resides in the soil. Sunny of course.

Warm, humid, cloudy and breezy here to start the day. 18.6, dew 16.4; the overnight low was 18.3 (5C above average) and yesterday's high was a degree and a half below average at 21.7. I wouldn't say it feels fresh or particularly cool, but it's far more comfortable than the weather last week!

That is a pattern which I’m not expecting to change any time soon.

A dull and overcast start to today here in Edinburgh but as I very patiently wait for the Sun to eventually break through as I'm sure it will, I can report that with this cloud cover, last night was slightly warmer than the previous night with an overnight minimum temperature of 11.83°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 12.79°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so no single figures minimums this time.

Currently around 13°C here in Edinburgh

Out with my dog at the coastal park earlier - cloudy with a chance of blimps. My pup was not impressed as, with a sporting touch, they flew directly overhead! It sounded like an oversized drone.

The cloud has mostly gone now, the wind has eased to just a light NE'ly. 22.8, dew 19.6, which is the high so far today.
