Nothing new there. I've been telling people for decades about how cats give you a brain parasite (saying between a third and a quarter of the population have it) and find it baffling the way nobody cares. I can only assume they all have it and it's modifying their behaviour!
That same parasite causes mice and rats to lose their fear of cats, and be attracted to their urine. I strongly suspect it has a similar effect on people, too, and it certainly would explain how many (but by no means all) cat owners seem completely oblivious to why people might not want their pets taking dumps on their lawn, or killing birds in their gardens.
