No surprise to see a red for Friday in the SE - including most of Sheppey but oddly not quite reaching Leysdown, I think due to poor drawing skills rather than anything else! The raw continues to show 37 tomorrow. I'm surprised though that East Anglia isn't covered, given it looks just as hot as Kent!

30.9 here which is still almost 2C lower than it was this time yesterday. Dewpoint 21.4 which is also a couple of degrees lower. The DP dropped by 4C in just over an hour last night about 10pm.

31.9C here at midday, 1.3C lower than yesterday. 35 still feels achievable but it feels a lot less hot thanks to the breeze and lower humidity.

Where did you read this Mark reference overnight minimum? Just checked Mt Batten, official site for Plymouth and minimum was 23.6C. I guess the Met Office will announce if the record has gone officially once they have checked the data.

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned is that the heatwave occuring at the summer solsdist as opposed to late july and especially August means the warmest part of the day is likely slightly later since the heating potential is greater for the same time of day.

Yesterday we saw highest temperatures between 5pm and 6pm, we likely will see something similar today.

Nevertheless with only 33C being reached in a few spots at 12pm, I think 38C is now a long shot. I think somewhere may just about hit 37C today.

I don't really agree with you there. The focus was initially on Monday and Tuesday. It then got shunted into Wednesday and Thursday, hence the initial red warnings. The red has now been extended into Friday for some areas, but this has been quite a late development. I think I flagged it up either here or on Signal on Tuesday as a possibility, albeit a relatively low one as it seemed at the time.
