Kenley Airfield had an overnight minimum of 19.4, missed out on a May tropical night but seems within reach.

Heathrow already at 23.6 too, looks like a good chance of 35c today with this early start.

We have a new monthly record.

The lowest minimum temperature at Kenley in London last night was a sticky 19.4c beating the 18.9c set in Folkestone way back in 1944.

23c. We warm up slowly generally, should easily reach 30c here perhaps 32c,  Met Office says 33c for Leeds,  crazy for May.

Kind of like July 2022 when the previous record was beaten as far north as Durham. Beating the May record in Leeds too potentially by the looks of things.

Something's got to give. The MetO raw (which I'm sure is closely related to UKV) now has a high of 31 here on Sunday, with easterly winds.

GFS has 26C with easterly winds.

The sea is presently 13C, and I can't see how we'd get anywhere near 30C with a breeze coming off that - I would expect mid 20s tops. I do note, however, that the GFS has been playing "catch up" with MetO, temperatures rising a degree or two each day in its forecast...

Today it's plateaued around 22.5 for the past half hour, after a very rapid rise. Looks like just the merest hint of a sea breeze!

My vineyard station generally comes close to other PWS in the area though tends to peak early (East facing slope). But today it’s gone bonkers. Already showing 30.5C. This time yesterday it was 26.3C

According to the data at extremeweatherwatch.com, the highest recorded temperature in May at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is 29.0°C with those records going all the back to 1959. Today's maximum temperature here in Edinburgh is generally expected to reach around 25°C but although that would be enough to give us our hottest day of the year so far, that wouldn't even come close to even challenging the May record for here.

However, yesterday's maximum of 23.47°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh beat the previous date record for that particular station which stood at 22.1°C. Today's date record for that same station currently stands at 25.3°C as I write but if today turns out to be even hotter than expected, that date record could well be beaten for the second day in a row. As I write, the temperature there is already at 22.3°C (even Edinburgh Gogarbank is already at 21.1°C) so with plenty of heating still to come and with more in the way of sunshine coming through yet again after a brief cloudier blip, I can see that date record being broken again, and possibly quite easily.

30.4 at Kew Gardens at 10:00 compared to 24.9 yesterday

seeing as yesterday got to 32.3 in mid afternoon,  34-35 looks pretty likely later today

Ridiculous for the end of May
