Kent looking particularly toasty today, can we squeeze a 30c?

Spent the last 3 hours sat outside The Chequers Pub in Hanham. Absolutely beautiful by the river. Mega busy in stunning weather. Hopefully the summer is like last year

Nothing exceptional here so far, just typical late May warmth. It's a nice change though, either way.

We could have the hottest day of the year in May this year if summer doesn't produce any exceptional heatwaves

Must be a while since that happened if at all ?

One of the more remarkable things over the past 15 or so years is the inexorable rise in dewpoints. I see Southend is reporting 18C, Manston 17C, as is Thorney Island. Further inland dewpoints are a fair bit lower.

17 or 18 dewpoints *used* to only be seen in the moistest of Spanish plumes at the height of summer, late July to mid August. It's incredibly rare to see them this time of year, as the sea is still relatively cold (12-14C around the south and SE at the moment) and that *usually* has the effect of depressing air temperatures and causing coastal fog if very moist air arrives via the sea. This year it hasn't...

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

All talk about day maxima, but after tonight there could be some exceptional night minima for May- in the low 20s in many towns and cities. I think this is worth watching.

I hope no one minds. I've just stickied this. I've done it for 2 reasons. 1. I don't want it to disappear into the ether. 2. This current heatwave for this month will put this month into the records.

The hottest May was 1833 I believe. We can't challenge that because of the cold spell which almost occupied 10 days in the middle of the month. But what we're about to see this week and to the end of the month must be in itself the hottest May heatwave. All eyes are on tomorrow and Monday. Tuesday looks like being very hot as well.  🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
