The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 hour total up to 10 am BST (09:00 UTC) yesterday morning: 2.6 mm

Total since 10 am BST (09:00 UTC) yesterday morning: 5.2 mm (as at 6:40 am BST (05:40 UTC) this morning on Tuesday 19 May 2026)

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 33.8 mm (67.4% of 1991-2020 May average)

Number of rain days during this month: 8 (74.3% of 1991-2020 May average)

Number of dry days during this month: 7

This means that only at least another 16.4 mm of rain now needs to fall between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, only at least another 3 official rain days need to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days.

Seasonal Data

Total for this spring so far: 133.8 mm (90.1% of 1991-2020 spring average)

Number of rain days during this spring: 31 (102.5% of 1991-2020 spring average)

Number of dry days during this spring: 35

This means that only at least another 14.8 mm of rain now needs to fall between now and the end of this month in order for this spring to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, more official rain days have now been recorded during this spring than the 1991-2020 spring average and so regardless of what happens during the rest of this month, this spring will now go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 246.0 mm (31.4% of 1991-2020 annual average)

Number of rain days during this year: 62 (45.1% of 1991-2020 annual average)

Number of dry days during this year: 47

I can't imagine just 220mm ytd here - the place would be dying. But the last three months have only seen about a mm a day...

So far this month, a total of 35.0 mm of rain has been recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 40.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

So far this spring, a total of  135.0 mm of rain has been recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 122.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

As regards to this month, the botanic gardens has been the wetter of those two stations due to a number of showers having a much greater impact in the north of Edinburgh than in the rest of the city.

Over the spring as a whole though, it is Gogarbank which has been the wetter of those two stations with fewer official rain days being recorded at the botanic gardens.

This spring is therefore continuing the trend of being wetter than last year, but still not all that wet overall and this just goes to show how dry the spring of 2025 actually was.

Just got back from a few days in Western Scotland where the weather has been absolutely perfect for me - sunny and 22C.

Looked at the gauge after arriving home and found 20mm! All from a thunder storm last night/this morning apparently. Now up to 84mm for the month.

20mm the closing total for the month. 64mm for Spring so certainly a dry one but not as dry as 2025 where we only had 47mm.
