Here in Edinburgh, the final month of the meteorological spring has just started off on the usual bright and sunny note although last night was rather chilly with the temperature dropping to or slightly below 1.85°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and to around 4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where the temperature hasn't yet finished bottoming out as I write.
However, we have now lost that wind from off the North Sea which means that today should be warmer near to the east coast as a result. As a point of interest, I can remind everyone that on the last day of April 2025, the temperature at Gogarbank reached 23.65°C. By this time last year, a total of 3 maximums over 20°C had been recorded during 2025 up until that point in time at Gogarbank with the first of those being recorded on 12 April 2025 with a maximum temperature of 20.1°C.
As I write, we are still waiting for our first 20+°C maximum of this year at Gogarbank (although we came very close to getting that yesterday) but this might just be due to the fact that the current spell of ongoing constant dry and sunny weather took much longer to arrive this year (until around a couple of weeks ago, this had actually been a fairly wet spring here) than was the case last year. Generally, if we have not had that elusive first 20+°C maximum of the year by now, we usually always get that by the time that we get to the end of May. According to the forecasts, today is not expected to be as warm as that last day of April 2025 but nevertheless, we can't rule of the possibility of that first 20+°C maximum of the year happening as early as today as that might well end up happening.
As I write though, the temperature is currently a rather chilly 4°C here in Edinburgh.
