To open things, we have a few warm or hot days to come. This has been well-signalled by the models for a while now, and this morning's Met Office text forecast for the SE is quite remarkable.

EDIT: I'll use the subheading to keep a tally of the warmest day so far as the spring and summer progresses, as well as adding newly-set date records below.

7th Apr: 24.8, Mona

8th Apr: 26.6, Kew

Wednesday:

Another fine and dry day, with only limited amounts of high cloud. With lighter winds and widely sunny skies, it will be feeling warmer than on Tuesday for most. Maximum temperature 26 °C.

26C would effortlessly break the date record for Wednesday, which is 24.4C.

The further west today the warmer I think. 

...and as the winds turn SW'ly on Thursday, I reckon my part of the world is in the running for a very warm day:  the MetO raw has 24, for example. It'll be back to normal on Thursday and I'd imagine the high of 14 will feel pretty chilly in comparison!

That's the maximum temperature date record gone then - it had stood since 1859 and was the second oldest date record.

We may well see one go today and tomorrow as well.

An extraordinary bit of warmth for early April. 

The max was actually 24.8ºC from what I can see, at Mona in Anglesey.

Today's date record is 24.4ºC which goes all the way back to 1894.

Obviously it is in no way a "heat wave" or anything else particularly notable around here, but either way, it has still been a very pleasant and welcome spell of April warmth.

Currently 16.4 C at 6.45 pm with the setting sun beaming straight into my famed west-facing hobby room.

Remarkable day was at the beach in Frinton N Essex.  My kids were swimming in the sea. Not bad for early April. 

Today was superb. No need to spoil things by going OTT
