Rather unusually for this spring through (although this month has been much wetter here than the same month last year), today has started off on a rather dull, wet and miserable note here in Edinburgh and it is also fairly windy.

This rain is expected to clear away fairly quickly during the course of the day though so even with that, I'm sure that the Sun will still be out later on as per usual. Once that happens, I will then be looking to those much later sunset times which will now occur as a result of the change of the clocks.

Last night was fairly mild as well although the temperature here in Edinburgh is currently only around 6°C as I write.

An absolutely horrible day here in Edinburgh.

The main rain area has now cleared away but after a brighter and sunnier spell of weather, frequent blustery showers are now feeding in through the Forth-Clyde Valley towards here with the wind gusting up to around 48 mph the WSW.

The rain has been almost torrential here at times with some fairly intense echoes showing up on the latest radar maps and I'm pretty sure that I even heard a rumble of thunder in the distance a short while ago.

Today is still slightly warmer than of late though, currently around 11°C here in Edinburgh.

EDIT:

That earlier rumble of thunder is now showing up as a lightning strike on the latest maps, not all that far to our WNW.

I heard the thunder to my west John and the squally shower was quite something here with fierce winds and lashing rain! Red echoes on the rainfall radar! 3 lightning strikes on the map, two around The Forth Bridge and one just SW of those

In this and other threads, you have talked about this month being drier than average where you are despite Edinburgh Gogarbank being slightly wetter than average but given these latest conditions, I will be very surprised if that is still actually the case even now.

It's now bright with some sunshine for much of the time and generally a bit calmer, but we just had another squally heavy shower come through with the wind once again, picking up by quite a lot as that happened.

Furthermore, colder air has now started to dig in and although the temperature here in Edinburgh is still at around 7°C as I write, it now feels much colder than it did earlier on. The radar maps are showing that the showers are gradually turning to sleet and snow in the highlands and parts of the Southern Uplands as that colder air digs in, so it might not be too long before we possibly start to see a bit of that in the Pentland Hills to my south as well.

After a bright morning with some hazy sun, it's back to the usual dull drab dump gunk. 9.4 C & high-80% H in brisk SW breeze.

A comedown on yesterday's strong sunshine and convective cloudscapes.

In the end, last night didn't even get as cold here as I thought it might given the change of air mass throughout yesterday.

The Pentland Hills to my south continue to remain completely green and there wasn't even any ground frost as the overnight temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank only dropped to 3.2°C although even that is still fairly chilly for this time of the year.

The wind has died down though and the usual sunshine is back once again.

Currently around 5°C here in Edinburgh.

Not a great start to today here in Edinburgh to end the month.

The day has started on a mostly cloudy note with only the odd occasional bright or sunny interval at times.

In addition to that, there is also some very light drizzly rain around at times which isn't even showing up on the latest radar maps, but which is making it rather damp at times.

However, it's a lot milder than of late this morning with the temperature here in Edinburgh already at around 11°C.

Rather dull but dry. Lighter winds means that the current 10.0 C & low-80% H are feeling relatively mild for it.

A bit uninspiring, it has to be said but could be worse. It snowed on this day in 2022. 😁

Pretty sure I now have the Richardabdn curse with the current 10 C still feeling cold under overcast skies. Our Kent climate sucks.
