Anyway, last night was a bit milder than of late with a minimum temperature of 5.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but that still wasn't quite enough to prevent yet another ground frost from being recorded this time.

We can't expect it to be sunny all the time and unlike on other recent mornings, this morning has started off on a dull and overcast note. I'm sure that the Sun will at least make an appearance before long though as it usually always does and to be honest, I couldn't even care less if the Sun comes out today or not because even if it doesn't, we already have our sunnier than average month in the bag anyway.

Currently around 8°C here in Edinburgh.

Another frosty start after a gloriously sunny day yesterday. Down to 2C so a roof frost and thankfully not an air one. Calm and sunny.

Last night was much milder than of late. The official minimum temperature for yesterday (which would normally have occurred last night) at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 6.6°C but that was recorded at 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) yesterday morning.

It was quite a noisy night though with the winds at Edinburgh Gogarbank gusting up to around 44.9 mph from the WSW, and there was also some overnight rain which amounted to 2.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 1.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That has cleared away and as is usually always the case here at this time of year in particular, the Sun continues to shine here in Edinburgh although everything has a much fresher feel to it compared to what is was like just a few days ago.

Currently around 9°C here in Edinburgh

EDIT:

I have now found a good site for this data at roostweather.com from which I can obtain data for most of the major stations and they use the raw SYNOP data from ogimet.com for that. This is also better for stations such as Kew Gardens in London or the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which don't have a WMO number starting with 03 and which instead, has an id which starts with 99 because for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (as an example), the data goes back to 2011 instead of just the last week as is the case at weatherobs.com.

The mild, dry, sunny March continues and although it's only 6 C in a fresh WNW wind, we have clear blue sky and amazing visibility

I've just been up the hill and could see the snow covered Trossachs and a white Glenshee!

Our rainfall to date is 74% of average and as it stands March is our third dry month of 2026. Our sunshine is 112% so far and the mean temperature is +1.9 C to date.

Set off this morning in bright sunshine and the car thermometer read 7c

Halfway to Manchester the skies blacken. B y the time I reach the M62/M60/M602 junction, it's chucking it down with a sleety/haily mix and the temp is down to 4c.

Temp dropped again to 3c and briefly to 2c.

Manchester has been getting pummelled with heavy sleey-haily showers through the morning.

Had a couple of fleeting soft hail showers rattle through so far today, some nice crisp sunshine in between though. Brisk NW breeze making the current 7.6 C & low-70% H feel unnecessarily cold.

You really couldn’t make that up but I suppose, that’s just typical of my own luck when it comes to our weather.
