As we have entered into yet another brand new month, it is now time for a new thread. Last month's thread can still be used to post any final rainfall totals for February but this is now the thread to use for any rainfall totals which anyone wants to report for this month.

Believe it or not, most of Scotland away from the NE actually had a drier than average winter and although February was slightly wetter than average here, that is only really down to February being the winter's driest month on average according to the 1991-2020 averages (this means that the 1991-2020 February average rainfall for here is less than the monthly averages for the other winter months) and all of the other winter months were drier than average here. In fact, even last month wasn't all that much wetter than average here and if you compare last month's rainfall total with the 1991-2020 average for any other winter month, it would still come out as being slightly drier than average here.

Given last year's situation regarding water scarcity which resulted in Edinburgh experiencing its worst drought for 60 years, the fact that we have just had a drier than average winter is very concerning indeed going forward. Because our so-called "UK" mainstream media is English biased (and especially biased towards the SE England and London in particular), we will be very unlikely to hear a single mention of that from them and the main reason for that stems from the fact that the majority of the UK actually had a wetter than average winter with the largest part of that falling in the south and SW of the UK.

With the onset of spring and the return of a more familiar Atlantic-driven weather pattern, I would imagine that this might at least bring some relief to those areas in particular, which have been badly affected by recent flooding. Regardless of how this month pans out though, this is the very place to post those all important rainfall totals for this month.

Personally I think the BBC article sums it up pretty well and speaks to both the wetness is some areas and dryness in others - https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/articles/c1e9d20pg2lo

Data For Recent Days

24 hour total up to 9 am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 8.8 mm

Total since 9 am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 0.0 mm (as at 9:40 am GMT (09:40 UTC) this morning on Friday 13 March 2026)

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 35.8 mm (68.2% of 1991-2020 March average)

Number of rain days during this month: 6 (58.4% of 1991-2020 March average)

Number of dry days during this month: 6

This means that only at least another 16.8 mm of rain now needs to fall between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, only at least another 5 official rain days need to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days.

We're not even halfway through this month yet and yet, more rain has already been recorded for this month so far than what was recorded for the whole of this same month last year. This hasn't been an exceptionally wet month by any means either, so this is showing us just how exceptionally dry this same month was last year, as was the case last year in general.

Seasonal Data

Total for this spring so far: 35.8 mm (24.1% of 1991-2020 spring average)

Number of rain days during this spring: 6 (19.8% of 1991-2020 spring average)

Number of dry days during this spring: 6

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 148.0 mm (18.9% of 1991-2020 annual average)

Number of rain days during this year: 37 (26.9% of 1991-2020 annual average)

Number of dry days during this year: 18
