Conclusion
February 2026 was milder than average overall (though not as mild as December). It was yet another completely snowless month with the measly total of just three air frosts all month which is absolutely pathetic for any so-called "winter" month (that amounts to less than a third of the 1991-2020 February average).
It was a month which was largely dominated by SE winds blowing out of a large blocking high over Scandinavia with Atlantic weather systems stalling as they came up against that blocking high.
As a result, February 2026 was a wetter than average month, especially in terms of the number of rain days. In terms of the actual rainfall amounts though, it was only just wetter than average and now, and mainly as a result of February being the driest winter month on average according to the 1991-2020 averages. In addition to that, it was also the winter's only wetter than average month in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.
February 2026 was also a substantially duller than average month and it wouldn't even surprise me if it was actually one of our dullest Februarys on record if not the actual dullest February on record.
Overall, a very disappointing so-called "winter" month.
