"A new sunspot that abruptly grew into a giant this weekend is crackling with strong solar flares. An X-class flare earlier today caused a widespread shortwave radio blackout in the southern hemisphere. More explosions are in the offing."

The Full moon may spoil seeing an aurora! Then there's the cloud!!!!!!

If skies are clear...

On the evening of February 18, 2026, a rare and beautiful "quadruple sky show" featuring the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Saturn will be visible from the UK.

Jupiter is amazing, and there's a chance to catch Mercury. Your guide to the planets, February 2026

When the sun sets on Wednesday, Feb. 18th, go outside and look west. Mercury and the crescent Moon will be extremely close together low in the twilight sky.

70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1956 GROUND LEVEL EVENT:

It doesn't have a catchy name, and most people have never heard of it. Yet space scientist Clive Dyer of the Surrey Space Centre can't stop worrying about 'GLE05'--a major solar radiation storm in 1956.

"Today is the 70th anniversary of that extreme space weather event," says Dyer. "If it happened again today, it would have a significant impact on air travel and modern technology."

We've had our first spotless day of the declining part of the solar cycle - plenty more to come in the next few years!

If only skies are clear!!!!!

"Seven planets in our solar system - Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, Mercury and Saturn - will be visible in the night sky this week.

Known as a a planetary parade, the pheno is rare, and incredibly it won’t happen again with seven planets line up, until 2040!"

Across the UK, the Worm Moon is at its fullest on Tuesday 3 March at 11:38 GMT during the day.

However it will appear full overnight on both Monday and Tuesday.

It tends to look its most impressive when closest to the horizon at moonrise which occurs at different times across the UK...

Look to the east in the early evening sky.

Watch the 'blood moon' total lunar eclipse live online tonight with these free livestreams. One of several options...

Time and Date will host live coverage of the March 3 total lunar eclipse on its YouTube channel, starting at 4:30 a.m. EST (0930 GMT). The stream will feature live views from Los Angeles, Western Australia and potentially more, with expert commentary provided by journalist Anne Buckle and astrophysicist Graham Jones.

CME from SpaceWeather.com

Earlier today, [17th] an Earth-directed solar flare launched a CME almost directly toward our planet. It is due to arrive just hours before the northern vernal equinox, setting the stage for amplification via the Russell-McPherron effect. Mid-latitude auroras are possible on March 19-20.
