At the end of the 1962-3 winter, the Guardian compiled a booklet about it from reports that had appeared in the newspaper. I've discovered that it is available online here:

There are some fascinating pieces, including some by the eminent climatologist Gordon Manley (who among other achievements created the CET series). Note that the temperatures are given in Fahrenheit, which hopefully won't be too much of a problem. (I'm old enough to be "bilingual".)
