I have almost certainly gone way too high with 5.2 but actually if I was in the 3-4c range I'd be hopeful still as if there's one thing winter is good at nowadays it's "pulling defeat from the jaws of victory" when it comes to delivering a decent cold month.

It really could go multiple ways. The southern CET sites could have a few daily CET values of 8-9c next week.
Many more of those kinds of temps and your 5.2c very much comes into play.

I do think that since 2009 Jan has somewhat bucked the winter warming trend, seems very easy to get a ridiculously warm Dec or Feb but Jan has very seldom been more than a shade above average in that time
