Meanwhile, I can now report that the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has now risen to just above freezing once again, so no ice day here.

Unlike elsewhere in the UK (as is being seen with Storm Goretti which is really just an England only event), it is usually always asking too much for Edinburgh to get anything in the way of actual weather which is even remotely interesting, so it should come as no surprise as a result that we haven't been able to get an ice day on this occasion).

I walked from Blackford up to Braid Hill today (208m) across the golf course and back through the woods

Above 180m there was a smattering of snow from yesterday evenings showers and above 300m the Pentlands are white for the first time this cold spell. Stayed below freezing up above 100m today I would say

It was -4 C when I left home at 10:30 and 0.9 C when I got back a few minutes ago down into the suburbs. Ice is widespread, quite tricky walking at times

I see we are in a new Yellow warning area for wintry showers coming in from the east tonight......we shall see 🤔

Very windy with the SSE winds really picking up in the last hour. Hard to hear yourself outside. Rain has passed for now. I’m bracing myself for the switch in direction later…I am really not looking forward to these gusts.

The wind's started to pick up from the ESE here, having been pretty much calm all day - an unusual direction and one which will make for a noisy evening (with various creaks and groans not usually heard!) There's steady rain outside and the MetO raw shows it raining non-stop until 7 PM tomorrow - I can imagine there'll be problems with flooding in some spots, as the ground remains frozen a few mm down.

4.7, dew 4.0, the high so far being 4.8. Odd to think it'll be something like 9C in the middle of the night, only to have fallen back by the time everyone gets up!

Current conditions not quite what I expected, we have light rain with 8mph wind, the temps have risen from 4.8c to 7.8c in an hour and DP has risen from 3c to 6c in the same time, not what I was hoping was going to happen.

16.6mm of rain here today, just a little pick up in the winds but in reality they aren't supposed to get anything in the way of strong until tomorrow morning.

It's currently 4.5c if my VP2 temp is working properly. I know the humidity sensor has broken, as has been reading 100% for a couple of weeks so no idea on DP, and obviously the temp sensor is part and parcel of the same board. I have a new one ready to fit but it's either been freezing or pouring so haven't got round to it recently.

Mild air definitely made it here, now up to 7.2c, up 2c in the last 30 minutes or so.

Annoyingly my rain gauge is having a moment so has only recorded 4.3mm rain - I wiggled a pipe cleaner in it earlier as it had 0 mm but suspect it's still got crud in so will have to take apart tomorrow and clean it.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 0.7°C which makes today our coldest day of the winter so far and despite the fact that it's still mostly overcast as I write, the temperature here in Edinburgh has still managed to drop to around -1°C with an official air frost once again being recorded at all three of my local stations.
