Is anyone actually seeing any snow yet? I've looked at the webcams and can't find any...

Here in Ireland, it is calm & very dank & chill under that air mass that will be feeding and driving that southern UK storm. Dirty, manky weather. Pressure now rising.

Very rare to hear that dialect nowadays. Worth a listen for anyone who comes across this thread and there is a lot to deep dive into with the speaker. And even more if you have the time read this. It probably won't tell you the meaning of life but it just might open a door that if you are ready, open another door and another.

I’ve just got my phone alert for the red warning…. It sounded like the alert from the film Greenland..hopefully no asteroids.

Pressure is now 972mb and the winds have dropped to a light/moderate breeze. The wall of rain to my west holds the red warning. I feel we’re about to start a fairground ride.

This is an amazing spell of torrential rain! Why? Because the temperature is 2.3 °C and the dew point is 1 °C, with a rain rate of 11.2 mm/hr.

Story of a journey:

1430: Chichester 6C moderate rain

1530: Winchester 4C heavy rain

[Delay due to vehicle fire on A34, and then a further breakdown obstructing traffic)

1730: Oxford heavy rain and sleet

1830: Chipping Norton 0C heavy snow, settling

The idea was to leave earlier and not to get held up on the A34, both unrealistic, and arrive at Chipping Norton before the snow.

EDIT; 2145, now all melted!

Wow! Check out the graph on https://www.landsendweather.info/ They go from averaging wind gusts of 35mph to 93mph in the space of 5 minutes! That's insane.

The temperature drops from 11c to 5c too.

We now have wet snow falling in North Northants. Looks to be associated with the increased intensity. Unlikely to settle after the past few hours rainfall.

In the north the synoptic scale ascent is collaborating with the lake effect to start to produce showers in the teeside area. I imagine this will happen more widely over the next few hours. Will it be snow though?

As a weather enthusiast I have to say this is scary. The wall of wind and rain that hit us was something I’ve never experienced in 57 years. The power went out almost immediately with the poles sparking all over the valley. It was like a blue/white flash firework party. We are all electric so it’s candles and the wood burner.

The radar shows a nice curve and I'm right in the middle so not particularly windy for now. I think that will change in due course. Hope you are all OK further west. And the power is restored soon.

My eldest daughter lives in Birmingham and was due to come back this evening. Her train was cancelled so she took one 30 minutes earlier. She's home now.

When she left at 5pm it was raining there. Now look! (This is a live streaming webcam right on the route she sometimes uses between her flat and her office, it's fun just watching passers by enjoying the snow).

A heavier bit was sleet for an hour or so here, that should be it for tonight, still a bit of hope for tomorrow for some snow (not a high level of hope, though)
